Senior Geotechnical Engineer – HS2

Overview,
Our client have formed a Joint Venture to support the project for the design of Packages C2 and C3 of HS2 Phase 1.
The package C2 covers the North Portal Chiltern tunnels to Brackley section and C3 is the Brackley to Long Itchington Wood Green Tunnel South Portal section.

Role responsibilities’

• Responsible for providing information required to achieve scheme designs by demonstration via field trials
• Drive the field trials programme forwards to completion
• Liaise and update the lead engineer on the progress and direction of trials
• Undertake checking of scoping and specification documents produced by other team members
• Liaise with field trials team by attending regular progress meetings (multiple weekly)
• Oversee the exchange and processing of data received from field trials
• Interact with the design optimisation team and look to incorporate some of their requirements
• Champion the preparation of designs that are safe and healthy.
• Communicate with team members to ensure that they understand, and become engaged with the field trials workstream
• Support Lead Engineers in all relevant disciplines to ensure that JV teams are kept abreast of changes in standards.
• Liaises and updates the client field trial team on progress and proposals
• Will provide guidance and direction to the assistant engineers on how to develop field trial proposals
• Undertake checking of documentation composed as part of the field trial workstream before releasing to the geotechnical reviewer
• Keep abreast of best practices and industry standards on instrumentation and monitoring


Background we are looking for,

• A chartered engineer or geologist with a focus on geotechnics or engineering geology with experience in planning, supervising and designing elements of a project, with the ability of applying current standards and technical best practice
• Well-rounded geotechnical design experience with focus on earthworks, slope stability, piled foundations, laboratory testing and in-situ testing.
• Experience in earthworks design, specification and implementation.
• Have an understanding of the capabilities of GIS (Geographic information system)
• Required to have a working knowledge of HoleBASE SI
• Experience in the use of other routine geotechnical design programs such as VDISP/PDISP and REPUTE.
• Can communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels, across the project organisation and externally with demonstrated ability to prepare project reports.
• Understand how to manage health, safety and welfare within own area of responsibility, including awareness of safety issues in an operating railway environment.
• Fully familiar with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.
