My client has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Estimator to join the team in their West Yorkshire office. My client is a top UK national housebuilder with a 5 star rating who work on a mixture of new build housing.

As their Senior Estimator you will work in our Pre-construction Team to secure Land & Partner Delivery opportunities for residential housing schemes to deliver the company’s Business Plan objectives. This will include leading detailed appraisals for Mixed Tenure, Partnerships and Open Market housing schemes.

The successful candidate will come from a housebuilder or developer background and ideally have some experience of pricing contracting work, although not essential. You should be experienced in pricing work from first principles as well as utilising supply chain and existing company outturn information

Key responsibilities

  • Secure land opportunities within our geographic operational area to generate profitable work, working alongside the Land and Technical function.
  • Lead on contracting tender opportunities from receipt of EOI to entering into contracts.
  • To maintain and develop working relationships with our local and national supply chains.
  • Work closely with Technical and Construction teams to ensure 360’ feedback.
  • To deliver information in a professional manner to promote the business in our area of operation.
  • Initial appraisal of land opportunities based on information provided. Assess risks and opportunities, establish viability.
  • Develop a strategy with the team to manage and appraise the financial element of the opportunity.
  • Supporting value engineering or negotiating exercises where required.
  • Monitor cost movement and maintain pricing rates.
  • Provide trade breakdowns and appraisals to allow tendering budgets
  • Regularly update current appraisals
  • First principles estimating skills required
  • Conduct site visits
  • Ensure risks and opportunities are identified
  • Compile Sub contract enquiries for issue electronically. Source subcontractors and suppliers capable of carrying the works specific to the project, size, complexity & location.
  • Price draft preliminaries where required in line with the tender programme and the assigned project manager for the tender.
  • Provide a cost overview to the Divisional CE/DMD/DFD
  • Present the financial elements for the tender Adjudication meeting
  • Assessing build costs, technical constraints, planning advice, programme, specification
  • Develop appraisal to establish scheme viability

Skills, experience and qualifications

  • Minimum HNC in Construction or equivalent or relevant experience
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experienced in pricing work from first principles as well as utilising supply chain information
  • A proven track record in a similar position within a mixed use, residential business.
  • Experience working with various internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of Conquest Estimating software or similar would be beneficial.
  • Ability to utilise current and new networks to develop the business
  • Strong commitment to achieving deadlines
  • Able to work efficiently, on own initiative, prioritising as necessary
