About the Role

To complement and strengthen the existing team, we are looking for enthusiastic time served Plant Mechanics/Fitters to work in our busy Plant Maintenance Team, to carry out preparation, repairs and scheduled maintenance of mechanical drilling/construction plant equipment including cable percussion drilling rigs, rotary drilling rigs, top hammers, grout mixing plant, water and mud pumps, water tanks, silos, ancillary drilling and probing plant and equipment.
There are role’s based from the Regional Plant Yard in West Yorkshire, with travel to sites as required to respond to breakdowns and repairs. Site work is undertaken nationwide, outside across a wide range of urban, countryside and marine environments, dependant on the location of the project, as such a clean UK Driving Licence is a requirement, along with the flexibility to attend and work on site’s away from home as and when required including overnight stays.
Workload varies from general routine jobs to tasks carrying responsibility and requiring good planning and organisation, use of one’s own initiative, problem solving, good knowledge and attention to detail, alongside excellent communication skills, good customer-service focus and a professional approach.
Work includes a large degree of manual handling and interaction with a variety of plant and equipment and the use of a counterbalance forklift. You must have a valid appropriate CSCS card, relevant qualifications and proof of apprenticeship and have proven experience of maintaining construction plant and equipment, including fault finding. In addition, you must be trained and qualified in:
• the use of abrasive wheels to enable the repair of equipment
• the use of welding and burning equipment
• slinger signaller
• and be in possession of a suitable toolbox and contents to be able to carry out everyday maintenance work

With a conscientious and caring attitude towards your work and fellow colleagues, you will be both focussed and thorough, using your own initiative and judgement in the role, knowing when to refer issues to the site supervisor. You will need to work to agreed timescales and be able to prioritise faults and subsequent repairs. You will have excellent communication skills, to effectively communicate with plant operators to determine root cause of defects and effect repair without affecting the safe operation of the plant, and unnecessary delays to production.
The role involves:
Maintaining and repairing heavy construction plant and equipment including but not limited to the following activities:
• Diesel engines including diagrams
• Hydraulic systems including the reading and interpretation of hydraulic diagrams
• Electronic systems including the reading and interpretation of diagrams
• Engines & Fuel Systems including diagrams
• Transmissions
• Installation, maintenance and repair of plant instrumentation
It is the Fitters responsibility to ensure that all paperwork, including job sheets and requisitions, are kept up to date and provided to the Yard Manager.
As part of the Plant and Site teams, you will attend daily briefings prior to the start of shifts whether in the yard or on site to ensure that you are aware of the daily activities and their roles and responsibilities.
There is a relentless focus on safety, and you will need to ensure compliance with business strategy and procedures and demonstrate highly visible and effective HSE. You must be able to work to a defined health and safety management system and understand what is required of yourself and other colleagues.
