Job Title: Grounds Maintenance Operative

Location: Various social housing estates (as assigned)

Employment Type: Temporary/Contract (via agency)

Reports To: Grounds Maintenance Supervisor / Contractor

Job Summary:

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Grounds Maintenance Operative to carry out routine outdoor maintenance tasks across social housing estates. The role involves maintaining communal green spaces to a high standard, ensuring safe and pleasant environments for residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mow lawns, strim edges, and maintain flower beds and shrubbery.
  • Carry out hedge trimming, pruning, and weeding.
  • Remove litter and debris from communal outdoor areas.
  • Use powered tools and machinery safely (e.g., mowers, strimmers, leaf blowers).
  • Report any issues such as fly-tipping, vandalism, or hazards to supervisors.
  • Assist with seasonal tasks such as gritting, leaf clearance, and planting.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Work respectfully around residents and members of the public.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance or horticulture.
  • Ability to operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Good physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in all weather.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Full UK driving licence (preferred).
  • DBS check may be required depending on site access.

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture or equivalent.
  • PA1/PA6 spraying certification.
  • Experience working in social housing or public sector environments.
  • Awareness of safeguarding and respectful conduct around vulnerable groups.
