We are currently recruiting VRS Engineers for a Highways client (Government-owned company), who are looking to add heads to their team on a permanent basis. They have an exciting opportunity for someone to join their Highways team in the South-East region, where you will get the opportunity to work on large and prestigious Highway infrastructure projects across the region, supporting and gaining experience from Senior Engineers and other peers.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to apply your civil engineering experience, knowledge and skills to all aspects of highway infrastructure engineering and asset management. As an Engineer, you will be undertaking the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria and the designing of highway renewals and maintenance schemes.

Daily duties include but are not limited to:

  • To ensure the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service activity.
  • To undertake the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria.
  • To develop early solutions for improvements and/or renewals, including the compiling of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs.
  • To monitor the delivery of agreed early solutions and plans, liaising with the relevant teams to identify and/or rectify issues and to ensure that asset data and condition information is captured and maintained in the relevant database(s), in line with agreed standards and timescales.
  • To identify, prepare briefs and manage delivery of survey works that support the improvement and/or renewal of assets and to develop the technical briefs provided to the design and construction contractor for improvement and renewals work.
  • To provide technical support to Project Managers.
  • To undertake reviews of third-party designs for compliance to standards, design briefs and Design for Maintenance Requirements.

Candidates will ideally:

  • Have worked as a VRS Engineer / Civil Engineer within a construction environment. (2+ years experience).
  • Degree or HND in relevant discipline and appropriate experience (or similar). (Ideal not Essential).
  • Membership of professional Body (desirable) or working towards Membership.
  • Good understanding of highways assets, including knowledge of asset condition assessment. Experience with VRS / Pavement assets is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highways network with an understanding of the Value Management process or cost benefit analysis of schemes.
  • Experience in highway infrastructure design in one or more of the asset specific disciplines of Vehicle Restraint System, or Pavements would be advantageous.
  • Experience in relevant construction and delivery methods.
  • Working experience in AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of CDM 2015.
