My client, a global Consulting Engineers, has asked me to assist them in identifying and placing a Transportation Planner within their Transport Planning Team in Birmingham.

You will report to a Principal Consultant within a collaborative team and office environment and work closely within Transportation and other disciplines across their office to deliver quality products that satisfy the needs of our clients and funding bodies.

You will assist with the specification and management of transport planning projects and programmes, provide advice and support to junior staff and assist in the development of business opportunities.

You will lead workstreams within projects with limited supervision, taking responsibility for the technical quality of the work and ensuring that best practice techniques are applied consistently. You will also contribute to the production and delivery of larger proposals and bids related to our market area from time to time and lead on smaller proposals and bids.

You will take responsibility for the technical development of junior staff, providing on-the-job coaching and mentoring of Graduates and Technicians.

You will have demonstrable experience and understanding of Transport Planning issues and practices, in particular the Development Planning process, Transport Assessments, Sustainable Transport policies and practices and Road Safety. An ability to interpret traffic model outputs to inform development management would be desirable, with strong technical and report writing skills.

You should have the ability to handle the project management of smaller projects, including proposals, cost control and client liaison. With an analytical mind and background, you should be able to explain clearly complex and technical concepts to clients and colleagues in writing and verbally.


Minimum Requirements:

An analytical mind and background and broad understanding of current transportation trends and issues

Experience in areas such as transport strategy, modelling, planning and business case development which demonstrates excellent technical capabilities (literacy, numeracy, communication).

A highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills and ability to work in a consultancy environment, contributing to effective client relationships and working to tight deadlines.

A team player who can work as part of wider project teams across disciplines and geographies - making high-quality technical contributions.

Proven analytical, data manipulation or statistical skills using appropriate software

You need to have strong technical, communication and report writing skills

You should be able to explain technical concepts to others, especially our graduates and anyone else who may ask


Preferred Qualifications:

Educated to degree level in an appropriate discipline (such as Transport Planning, Economics, Maths, Civil Engineering etc.).

Appropriate professional status and a member of a relevant professional chartered institute, for example, Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE), Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), Transport Planning Society (TPS), Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT) or Chartered. Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).
