Technical Manager (MEP) – Cambridge – 6 months freelance – Start ASAP – circa £400 per day

An opportunity has arisen to support an industry leader in UK’s Building Services sector as their Technical Manager (MEP) based out of our client’s Cambridge regional office.

This freelance role will commence from June 2024 and is expected to last a minimum of 6 months with the potential of further work depending on performance and workload factors.

The purpose of this role is to provide design & technical leadership for the delivery of design information for several Ministry of Justice (MOJ) projects, with MEP values typically ranging from £2M - £100M; with emphasis on preconstruction supporting with design variations and cost planning elements for prison block new builds.

Key tasks:
• Undertake high quality design reviews at each stage of the respective processes
• Communicate risks (cost and programme) resulting from inherited design in a clear and insightful manner.
• Propose opportunities (cost and programme) by way of alternative solutions.
• Manage Value Engineering (VE) process together with Customer and Commercial function.
• Prepare technical Contractor Proposals for inclusion in contract, with support as required.

Key understandings:
• Able to understand & implement IPD & Smart Landings
• Design & technical management process, Design Management, Procurement, Preconstruction and Delivery in the construction industry.
• Knowledge regarding the current statutory requirements in respect of the construction industry e.g. Building Regulations Approved Documents.
• RIBA Plan of Work/BSRIA BG6.
• CDM 2015 Regulations, and other Health and Safety and environmental legislation.
• Construction contracts and construction contract documentation, including JCT & NEC based contracts.
• MEP materials, methods and technology.
• Procurement, management systems and risk management.
• Building Performance, BIM & Digital Engineering
• MEP & BIM Consultant Appointments.

Qualifications desired:
Candidates will ideally possess some or all of the below qualifications

• MEng/BEng(Hons) in an appropriate discipline e.g. Building Services Engineering; Architectural Engineering; Built Environment; Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
• MCIBSE/MIET or equivalent
• Chartered Engineer

Remuneration:
Variable depending on experience. It is expected day rate based on working 8am – 5pm will be circa £400 per day.
