My Client is currently looking to hire an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their civils team and work on a joint venture on Highways projects. This will be mostly home based, with occasional travel to Knutsford.


The Senior Quantity Surveyor role:

The Senior Quantity Surveyors central responsibilities include measurement, contract administration, commercial reporting, record keeping and maximising profit sustainably by developing and maintaining excellent relationships with Clients and key supply chain partners.

• You will need strong commercial ability with a focus on profit, cash and accurate reporting. You should be skilled and confident in cost forecasting including regular cost-to-complete and Budget reviews with contract delivery teams including commercial challenge.

• You will be responsible for reviewing allocation sheets and diaries providing feedback and advise as necessary.

• You should be experienced negotiating with Clients and contract administration including preparation of interim applications, preparation of cost reports (EVM), demonstrating Defined Cost and managing the early warning/change process etc.

• You should have detailed knowledge and commercial understanding of NEC forms of contract (Option C, D or E preferably). You will need to be capable of managing large subcontract packages under NEC Option A/B, in compliance with company processes and procedures including management of change (including Early Warnings), assessment of payment certificates and agreement of final accounts.

• You will be proficient in Earned Value Management techniques including analysis of large data sets from differing sources and formats. You will need to be highly skilled in Microsoft Excel so that you can complete these duties efficiently.

• You should possess strong knowledge of technical, professional, contractual and commercial matters relevant to the construction industry.

• Youll be capable of applying company governance and risk management processes so as to minimise risk, cost and maximise value.

• You should possess construction and civil engineering industry experience covering relevant sectors and markets in commercial positions with industry main contracting organisations.


Your profile:

• You will be degree qualified in Quantity Surveying/Commercial Management and be a member of RICS or CICES.

• You will be capable of anticipating problems early and provide support with resilience and flexibility.

• You may be working towards a Masters degree in Construction Law or Quantity Surveying or have aspirations to complete post graduate education.

• Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, capable of using Pivot tables, formulas such as MATCH, INDEX, XLOOKUP etc and knowledge of Power Pivot/Power Query/Power BI a bonus.

• Proficient in techniques of Earned Value Management including collation and presentation of complex data from varied sources. A good understanding and experience of compiling unit rates and tenders.

• Competent using cloud-based software such as CEMAR, Business Collaborator, Sharepoint etc

• Skilled in multi-tasking, prioritising and managing a complex workload. Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills and proven people management skills.

• Good organisation and planning skills.

• Extensive knowledge in managing civils packages ideally on Highways projects, or other relevant capital projects experience

• Capable of leading the dissemination of a breadth of internal and external data, whilst applying sound judgement in line with the strategic direction of the business.

• We are happy for the Senior Quantity Surveyor to be homebased as long as they are willing to travel to site or Knutsford as and when required.
