You will lead architectural and multidisciplinary design teams with responsible for the technical delivery of a range of healthcare and other projects from bidding through to delivery. As a Director you will act as a Bid Manager for small to large scale Healthcare opportunities and contribute to the development of the company by supporting the senior management team in the progressive evolution of the companies design philosophy, research activities and technical development.

Our client are seeking an Architect with strong recent experience of working with Healthcare clients in both private and public sectors. The role will be based primarily in our Belfast office and will require travel within UK+I. You will play a key role in liaising with colleagues across the UK to coordinate the delivery of Healthcare projects across the UK+ and further afield. The candidate must be strong in technical design content and in design management, digital technologies, and design workflow. He/she will be expected to manage design activities and the production of design information.

Project/Design Responsibilities

Contribute, from the onset of a project, to the design of innovative and progressive design solutions that reconcile client’s goals and priorities while fostering opportunities for design excellence

To perform and/or direct material and building system research and participate in the co-ordination and preparation of project specifications

Ensuring Safety in Design principles are applied throughout all design stages of a project

Managerial Responsibilities

Organises own and others work to achieve set deadlines

Ensures, directly and through subordinates, that projects are completed on time and meet all requirements of the Design Brief

Responsible for the correctness, accuracy and complete multi-disciplinary coordination of the design documentation prepared by the assigned team

Ensures the quality of technical work produced by team meets AECOM’s Technical Excellence standards

Routinely interacts with clients, contractors, local authority representatives and others using skills of persuasion and negotiation to resolve critical issues

Responsible for key design input at early design phases and for general design leadership during the course of the project

Promotes teamwork within a multi-disciplinary team, maintaining positive moral and instilling a creative culture within the practice

Make appropriate value judgements with respect to corrective work that supports the design concept and performance goals of the project

Assume operational responsibilities which includes development and implementing Technical Excellence initiatives, management of resources (HR), training initiatives (CPD)

Resource forecasting and management

Manage and produce a range of business reporting activities

Support and develop staff through guidance, mentoring and leadership of their development

Ensures the latest software / techniques are utilised to increase productivity and training opportunities for staff are made available

Commercial Responsibilities

Understands and implements project management principles and able to work within project budgets which includes fees and designing to budget

Contribute to the companies leadership by representing the company at conferences and events with the aim of promoting the company’s work and philosophy both locally and internationally

Assist in initial assessment of potential new projects and competitions

Contribute to preparation of bids

Build a network of professional relationships with existing and prospective clients

Manage commercial aspects of projects including NEC processes

Actively participate in marketing and business

Minimum Requirements

Supports, oversees and coordinates architecture activities for an operating unit.

Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative.

Initiates and maintains contact with senior-level management within the company and is skilled in dispute resolution and negotiation of critical issues. At this level, the individual will have demonstrated understanding of project delivery requirements, creativity, foresight, working with a multi-disciplinary team to meet project goals and deliver high quality technical excellence.

Demonstrates mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual operations problems, determining operational objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for diverse architectural activities.

Supervision received is essentially administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
