Working with a successful and growing specialist subcontractor I am currently recruiting a Quantity Surveyor to join their busy team.
The Quantity Surveyor will manage commercial aspects of a portfolio of projects in the South West and South Wales region to oversee and monitor the costs incurred during construction projects and ensure that the project meets the budgeted profit. The QS will also ensure applications for payment are robust, accurate and timely to minimise the cash held in work in progress as well as building strong relationships internally as well as with clients and suppliers that reflect the reputation for quality and service that my client has developed over their years in business.
Specific duties for the Quantity Surveyor include:
Safety, Health and Environment - Visibly lead the culture of health, safety and environmental protection through safety excellence and ensuring that the company meets statutory obligations and industry standards to minimise risk, prevent incidents and protect the business
Project Budgets - Review the program and prepare internal budgets for the monitoring of revenue and costs throughout the project so that any variances can be quickly identified
Cashflow Preparation - Prepare the project cashflow, providing to clients when required, so that there is visibility of cash requirements across the company
Contract Review - Review contracts and collateral warranties, raising queries with the client, taking legal/insurer advice as required, so that any disadvantageous terms or clauses are removed or changed
Valuation - Complete valuations for completed works, liaising and agreeing with the Main Contractor QS, for robust and accurate payment applications that are paid in full by the client
Payment Management - Manage the payment process for construction projects including negotiating payment terms, applications for payments and preparation of final accounts so that we receive timely payments from clients and minimise cash requirements
Risk Analysis - Identify any risks around the likelihood of a cost variation, raising internally or with the client, as appropriate
Variations - Provide the clients with prices for variations to contract, with the support of cost planners when complex, ensuring appropriate payment for additional work
Sub-Contractor Management - Source and manage the procurement, scope of works and payment of sub-contractors as required, in conjunction with the contracts team, monitoring completion of works and reviewing invoices to ensure agreed works are completed and accurately billed
Reporting - Complete monthly applications reports, and other progress/financial reports required by the client or the company.
To be considered for this position, the successful candidate must be an effieicient, organisded and professional Quantity Surveyor who can lead, plan and collaborate as well as keep a strong sense of order and communication between sites and head office. Ideally the QS will hold a formal qualification in Quantity Surveying or similar and have experience of working in a similar professional subcontractor. To succeed in the role the QS will be an excellent negotiator with attention to detail and ability to prioritise conflicting workloads. An ability to adapt and suggest process improvements, make decisions but know when help is needed, be empathetic but with a good sense of fun and the ability to build relationships internally and externally will be of key importance.
The salary available with the role will be in the region of £40,000 to £50,000 per annum.
