The leading manufacturer of interior fit-out units for the construction industry is seeking an experienced QS to join their team.

Based in Somerset, the company is expanding and now looking to appoint a qualified and experienced Quantity Surveyor to assist with the contract management. Working with large scale and varied developments across the UK and with contracts valued up to £10million it will be an interesting role at an exciting time of the companys growth.

You must have contracting or developing experience (min 3 years) to understand the processes and procedures of the role. Suitable candidate will be a motivated individual that is driven to see the progress of jobs from initial client enquiry through to completion. You will be able to assess any error and investigate it thoroughly (so good contract knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts would be an advantage). We are a leading manufacturer of interior fit-out units for large commercial and residential building projects across the UK. Working closely with main contractors
and developers across a wide range of sectors student accommodation, apartments, hotels, retirement homes, healthcare, MOD and care homes, we supply over 10,000 units a year.

The business forms part of a family-owned group of companies which has been manufacturing products and supplying the building industry for more than 60 years. It employs about 250 people across 3 sites. Experiencing significant organic growth in the last few years we are now able to choose projects carefully, which range in value from £250k - £10m and continue to build upon our success.

About the role
The Quantity Surveyor role is a senior position in the business working with the Assistant Quantity Surveyor and reports directly to the MD. This job is a client-facing role as the Quantity Surveyor will be the bridge between the clients and all sections of the business from the factory floor to the sales team, designers, and finance team. As a growing business, there are opportunities for career progression.

This role will predominantly focus on managing the contract process from negotiating
terms through to the final account. It will require a good understanding of the construction industry, specifically construction contracts. Noticing and resolving issues and seeing them through to completion is essential.

This role can be undertaken from the office with occasional site visits required.
Duties and responsibilities:
Working with the sales team on commercial and contractual elements of the contract
Active at senior meetings to discuss the commercial elements of the project
Review of Contractors terms and negotiation of contract amendments
Analysis of the contract sum position and identification/preparation of variations
Negotiation of the order ancillary documents
Review of the contract specification and scope of work to ensure compliance
Oversee and assist with monthly valuations and applications
Support the accounts team with contract sum build up and application process
Organising and negotiating collateral warranties
Updating the Contractor on project progress (liaising with design and production)
Negotiations and discussions with the Contractor to resolve any disputes
Manage the vesting process to secure payment for off-site materials


Must-haves:
A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the industry
Degree qualified
Contractor and client experience to understand the processes and correct procedures within the construction industry
Essential: Understand and interpret legal contract documentation
Willingness to learn new technical software
Ability to read and understand technical drawings
Confident decision maker and problem solver
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Work effectively under pressure as an individual and a team
