Freelance Project Manager

Location: Near Newton Abbot, Devon
Contract Type: 12 freelance contract, starting November

Summary

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with Tier 1 contractor experience to oversee the delivery of four modular buildings valued at £8 million, forming part of a larger £240 million development at a Her Majesty’s Prison near Newton Abbot in Devon. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the project from commencement through to completion, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.

This role requires strong leadership and coordination skills to manage subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders in a secure and operational prison environment. You will be expected to maintain compliance with all statutory and contractual obligations, manage risks proactively, and ensure continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.

Due to the sensitive nature of the site, EL1/BPSS security clearance is mandatory. The role demands a proven track record in delivering complex construction projects, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse project team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the delivery of modular building projects within a secure custodial environment.
  • Develop and maintain project programmes, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, security, and environmental standards.
  • Manage subcontractors and supply chain to meet project milestones and quality expectations.
  • Liaise with client representatives, stakeholders, and site teams to maintain effective communication.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues promptly.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting.
