As a principal process engineer you will provide superior engineering design services to allow the company to minimise risks and maximise opportunities within Scottish Water

Reporting directly to the principal process engineer, you will be responsible for the technical aspects of the delivery of a number of projects and for specific department management functions and improvement initiatives and responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

Provide technical leadership on projects in terms of developing and managing project scope and budgets, risks and opportunities.
Raise, monitor and take ownership of technical queries through to resolution.
Develop project resource estimates.
Ensure designs are developed that are safe to construct, commission, operate and maintain.
Maximise the use of standard designs and solutions wherever possible, with particular consideration of standard products and DFMA consider design as a part of the wider MWH BIM strategy.
Develop and evaluate innovative solutions and processes.
Complete all work in line with core values and in accordance with quality systems and project quality procedures report shortfall and update existing procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the department.
Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers on technical matters.
Record, monitor and control process design changes in order to maximise cost efficiency.
Ensure business risks are minimised on our or projects.
Help to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and report any shortfall.
Ensure designs take account of environmental issues.
Instil a culture where satisfying the customer is recognised as the key to achieving other objectives, and that customers include everyone receiving benefit from our processes, whether end users or other departments within the company.
Undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this role.
In all internal and external contact, present a professional and positive image of the department and MWH Treatment as well as maintaining mutually constructive, positive and beneficial relationships.
Actively support, develop, coach and mentor technical staff.
Actively share knowledge through MWH and client knowledge management systems.
Ensure your own continuous professional development by participating in external networking, conferences, associations/groups, to stay current on industry changes and innovations

About You
Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Chemical or Process Engineering or other relevant subject – minimum 8 years’ relevant experience
Excellent written and verbal communication and team working skills
Thorough general knowledge of all aspects of water and wastewater treatment
Experience in producing design documentation from preliminary design through to delivery and commissioning, including: P&IDs, control philosophies, mass balance, hydraulics.
CDM, Health and Safety, and Process Safety knowledge
Ability to think clearly under pressure
Ability to rationalise designs and produce economic process designs
A flexible mind, with the ability to assimilate large amounts of different data at one time
Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly
Excellent computer skills
