Are you an ambitious and experienced Geotechnical Engineer?

Our client is one of the leading engineering consultancies in UK, we are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join their team. The candidate will need to have a design background and be able to work within a team environment, supporting the design delivery of existing projects.  Projects typically include the inspection and assessment of embankments, cuttings, retaining walls, culverts, and drainage assets predominantly within the rail network, the consideration of options for remedial or upgrading works and the design and specification of practical solutions.

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting ground investigations and analyses to assess the geotechnical conditions of a project site. You will use this information to provide recommendations for foundation design and construction, slope stability, and earthworks.

To be successful in this role, you will need a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering, as well as several years of experience in the field. You should be comfortable working with a range of geotechnical software, including Slope/W, WALLAP, REPUTE, TEDDS, AutoCAD etc., and have excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

You will also need:

  • Experience in the preparation of construction drawings, specifications, and designers risk assessments
  • Good understanding of ground investigation methods and interpretation of ground investigation results.
  • Ability to identify and assess defects/instability features in earthworks, retaining walls and drainage systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of Eurocodes and current engineering codes of practice
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical/geotechnical design experience (earthworks, foundations, drainage)
  • Experience of client liaison and attendance at design review meetings
  • Ability to work to deadlines and excellent planning and organisation skills
  • Knowledge of industry standard software (e.g., Slope/W, WALLAP, REPUTE, TEDDS, AutoCAD etc.).
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good technical report writing skills

The role is likely to include earthwork, foundation and drainage designs including the remediation of slopes, retaining structures (including gabion walls, gravity walls, embedded piles, kingpost walls, anchored walls), soil nails, foundation designs (shallow footings, piles, mini piles), temporary works designs for plant access (including working on slopes, crane outrigger designs, working platforms) and drainage improvement works.
