Location – Basingstoke

(Southern region)

 

An outstanding opportunity for a Commercial Assistant to join my clients specialist rail and civil engineering team in the Southern region, playing a fundamental role in supporting a team of Quantity Surveyors in the commercial management of long term, secured Civils & Buildings Rail Capital Delivery Projects as well as rail systems projects and frameworks throughout the South East.

 

Business Unit

A busy and fast paced business unit involved in a range of civil engineering works in a variety of sectors to include rail (bridges, embankments, stations, platforms, tunnels etc.), Environment Agency, Local Authority etc. The business unit are involved in multi-disciplinary civils projects across the South East & Wessex regions, whether one off tendered projects or projects within my clients long term framework / contract agreements with key clients for rail associated building works and civils infrastructure.

Existing contracts include rail building and civils frameworks, minor works and Environment Agency frameworks with works typically including bridge re-construction/replacement, upgrades and refurbishments, station work (platforms, access for all etc.), structures including bridges, tunnels and footbridges.

 

The Role

As a Commercial Assistant you will form an integral part of our expert commercial team responsible for commercial management of long term, secured Civils & Buildings Rail Capital Delivery Projects, throughout the South East (Southern region). You will work closely with the Quantity Surveyors, Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Management team providing commercial and administrative assistance. Your responsibilities will comprise of providing Commercial support to the Capital Delivery Projects & Day to Day Asset Management team, producing estimates from a schedule of rates and site reports. Re-measuring actual works delivered and drafting final accounts. Day to day as a Commercial Assistant your duties will comprise of:

  • Sub-Contractor – Payments, Procurement, Liabilities for CVR
  • Weekly Reports - Job Tracker
  • Create & Process order requests
  • Compilation of final account packs for Network Rail
  • Obtaining signed completion certificates and chasing information from internal staff
  • Distribution of completed SI's for estimating
  • Various CVR data manipulation exercises
  • Distribution of Technical Query forms to client and dealing with responses
  • Gathering Final Account Information
  • Organising Final Account Information to be signed off set to Network Rail to be paid
  • Issuing Site Inspections to the relevant QS to be estimated
  • Submitting estimates on to Monitor for Network Rail’s approval
  • Ensuring all Completion Paperwork & Estimates are filed

 

Requirements

My client is looking for well-organised and pro-active candidates with previous administration experience in a commercial team within the construction industry (preferably rail experience). To excel in this role, you will hold excellent communication and IT skills (Microsoft Excel) with a keen eye for detail and ambitions to progress with a career in Quantity Surveying.
