Our client, a large Tier 1 Construction / Civil Engineering Contractor, is currently looking to add a Carbon and Sustainability Specialist to their Carbon and Sustainability team, where you will be responsible for calculating and helping to reduce carbon output on circa 100 construction projects across the Anglian region.
Key aspects of the role will entail visiting relevant construction projects on an AdHoc basis, to develop relationships with key project / site-based teams and contacts, to understand their design and delivery methods, advising on ideas for carbon reduction and increased sustainability. This will also entail attending project meetings with client to provide input on Carbon & Sustainability, ideas/strategies that could be used across multiple projects.
Offering a challenge across diverse / complex projects, you will get the opportunity to create & implement innovative and pro-active low carbon practices, providing an industry-leading end-to-end sustainability services.

In this role, daily duties will include but are not limited to:
- Supporting project construction teams, creating strong working relationships and being the go-to contact for Carbon & Sustainability issues / ideas.
- Helping ensure both project teams, carbon and sustainability teams and the end client his carbon reduction goals. (Further information can be provided around set reduction / improvement goals)
- Calculating carbon emissions of construction projects (capital, operational, whole life carbon), developing carbon analysis plans, understanding carbon baselines and identifying opportunities for carbon reduction.
- Support design and delivery teams to maximise the Six Capitals benefits of their projects.
- Undertake detailed lifecycle and whole life carbon assessments of projects and products.
- Leading and developing strategies for reducing carbon and embedding sustainable best practices.
- Updating internal Carbon and Sustainability intranet pages, ensuring relevant information is updated.
- Capturing case studies of projects, to demonstrate exemplar carbon reduction.
- Working with Anglian Water Carbon Neutrality team support on delivering Carbon and Sustainability training.
- Taking a lead role in organising and delivering carbon and sustainability related events.
- Supporting on innovation projects to undertake carbon footprint analysis and month carbon review meetings.
Candidates will ideally:
- Hold a relevant qualification, such as a Degree in Carbon Management (or similar).
- Have 2+ years’ experience working within carbon accounting, reduction and management.
- Have relevant experience working within the construction sector, understanding industry standards and directives and how we need to apply them to this role (i.e. PAS 2080).
- Have an excellent understanding of key concepts and practices in carbon reduction / sustainability issues.
- Be confident and resilient, able to work with site-based construction teams, ensuring they are onboard with and push to meet Carbon and Sustainability aims.
- Have an understanding of the wider corporate Net Zero landscape (Advantageous).
- By working with project teams, you will upskill them and yourself to ensure that carbon and sustainability issues are fully considered throughout the project lifecycle.
- Have a general passion for carbon reduction, sustainability and challenging the norm!
- Have strong communication, organisation, stakeholder management and presentation skills.
