Our client, a growing specialist Rail contractor, has an excellent opportunity available for a Business Development Manager to join their team, with the specific goal of helping to grow their rail department. Our client offers a range of high class services to the rail industry and they are looking to extend their offering to a wider pool of clients moving forward, ensuring end to end services meet individual jobs and larger project needs, including both planned and emergency work, delivered through a nationwide rail team.

Typical services they offer within the rail sector include but are not limited to: full project management, through to high pressure water jetting and CCTV surveying, UV and hot cure lining, drainage installation, civil engineering services, vegetation management and rehabilitation of drainage and structures using both traditional open cut and trenchless technologies, completing work across the complete rail infrastructure – off track locations, on or near the line, at stations, in tunnels, culverts, bridges and embankments.

The role would suit a Business Development Manager who has strong previous experience working within the Rail sector, understanding who the key contractors are within the industry, hopefully having good connections and pre-existing relationships with key contacts. In this role you will outwardly target and generate business in line with company strategy, which includes creating and managing a sustainable pipeline of work within the Rail sector.

Daily duties with include but are not limited to:

  • Building relationships with target clients to showcase client capability.
  • Arranging / Attending meetings with key industry clients / contacts.
  • Working with internal operations staff to understand and help allocate internal resource.
  • Completing regular aftercare with clients, ensuring workload if completed as scheduled.
  • Following up with new clients, to ensure you are at the forefront of their thoughts. 
  • Enhance regional and operational staff’s business development capabilities, to help achieve work targets.
  • Building on an already established network of contacts.
  • Taking the lead on client relationships, but equally introduce to regional teams and ensure a robust client relationships management strategy/delivery.
  • Prepare programmes of external communication, customer engagement and brand promotion that will contribute to the achievement of company objectives.
  • Organising and representing the company at key networking events.

Successfully candidates will ideally have:

  • Previously worked as a Business Development Manager within the Rail sector.
  • Pre-existing relationship with key industry contacts, able to reconnect with contractors.
  • Strong relationship building, organisation and communication skills.
  • An existing network of contacts within the rail and utilities sectors.
  • The ability to convert client relationships into opportunities for the business.
  • The ability to contribute to development of strategy and take responsibility for delivering objectives.
  • The ability to recognise changing market forces, understanding how that may impact businesses (own or clients’).
