NEW ROLE - Assistant / Intermediate Quantity Surveyor - Extra Care / Supported living projects - New build and refurbishment - North Manchester office

Client

My client are an SME. They work as both a management contractor and contracting business. They mid a strong presence in the midlands and they are currently setting up a North Manchester office. Current turnover is in the region of £35 million.

Projects

They work nationally and are involved in various residential schemes from luxury new build developments to full property refurbishments and conversions for the extra care and supported living sectors. Current clients are mainly Private Developers, Investors, and supported living providers. Some of these are involved in joint ventures.

Projects are new build and refurbishment.

Average project values are £1 million in value

Role

The Surveyor will provide commercial support to project teams, maintaining commercial information and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements The role requires someone with good communication skills to work within the team providing support to colleagues. The candidate should be self-motivated and well organised, able to prioritise their workload to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget, whilst maintaining a good mutual working relationship with the supply chain.

Hours

Your normal days and hours of work will be 40hrs per week, 8.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday, however this is flexible dependent upon the business needs.

Duties

Working with delivery team to ensure tender documents are issued to a good standard
Obtaining tender prices from suppliers and contractors.
Carry out Sub contract tender analysis, presenting these reports to the senior team and project manager.
Placing contracts with proposed sub-contractors using bespoke forms of contract.
Manging materials required by site, placing orders with suppliers and builders’ merchants, ensuring we are within budget.
Complete and issue regular costs reports, giving feedback on variations and forecast final accounts.
Ensure all contract and sub contract management / process obligations are fulfilled with particular reference to: - Procurement, Measurement and valuations, Contractual instructions, Health and Safety
Assist with the expansion of the supply chain, sourcing local sub-contractors as well as using existing supply network.
Compile Bills of Quantities / materials take-offs for live projects, working with the delivery team and assisting in ordering and managing materials on site.
Agree and produce final accounts for agreement with directors.
Contractor management, including processing of valuation applications and issuing relevant notices within prescribed timeframes.
Ensuring sub-contractor valuations are processed and advised in a timely manner with payment schedules issued to management to ensure accurate cash flow forecasting.

Candidate Requirements

Good time management, able to manage their own workload
Minimum degree level qualification in Quantity Surveying or similar recognised qualification
CSCS card would be preferred, but is not a requirement
Approachable, good personality, able to interact with all parties.
Recent experience working in a similar environment
Reporting skills / Administrative writing skills.
Good fundamental understanding of maths essential
Understanding of construction methods and technologies
Good level of IT Skills: competence in Word/Excel as a minimum.
Flexibility to visit site with 1 to 3 overnight stays per month.
Driving licence. Due to the nature of our sites travel will be essential.

Salary / Remuneration

TBC dependant on experience and qualifications

£25,000 - £37,000

Car allowance (depending on experience)

25 days plus Bank Holidays with 3 days deducted for Christmas closure
