Salary: Circa £33,000 to £37,000 Per Annum + Package (Holidays, 10% pension etc)

We are currently recruiting an Assistant Project Manager for a Highways client (Government-owned company), who are looking for someone to join their company on a permanent basis. They have an exciting opportunity for someone to join their Highways team in the South-East region, where you will get the opportunity to work on large and prestigious Highway infrastructure projects across the region, supporting and gaining experience from Project Managers and other peers.
In this role you will help to deliver projects through systemic project development and value management, ensuring the investment proposals and proposed design meet intended outcomes, through project lifecycles. A key part of the role will entail helping to manage project programmes, working with the supply chain and local authorities to ensure that renewals and highway improvement schemes are delivered as proposed, assisting with monthly forecasts and progress meetings etc.
Daily duties include but are not limited to:
- Working with Programme Development Managers and Team Leaders to develop the region’s 5-10 years programme of work, coordinating inputs and activities across multiple regional teams.
- Developing project briefs and business cases for the forward programme, ensuring business outcomes are clearly articulated, and that all necessary stakeholders are consulted (e.g. engineering, design, delivery, supply chain teams etc.)
- Working with supply chain to ensure the development of proposed solutions / designs.
- Developing packages of work for scheme delivery suppliers (e.g. Design suppliers), ensuring that these accurately reflect the work required to address the improvement need.
- Assisting Team Leaders and supporting Engineers in the project management and coordination of feasibility studies and activities involved in early solution development.
- Managing project development related activities within expected timescales and quality standards, ensuring activities are well planned and coordinated and that supporting documents are stored and controlled.
- Assisting with monthly forecasting and management of schemes, raising any breaches in governance.
- Identifying schemes where financial changes may be required through Change Requests.
- Providing technical value management (VM) support to assess proposed solutions / designs against overall costs and benefits; present proposals and recommendations to stakeholders (e.g. Route Managers, Asset Engineers) to agree sustainable solutions, with regard to funding/delivery constraints.
- Supporting the evaluation of VM implications for projects with significant design and/or scope deviation and provide recommendations to inform management decision making.
- Recommending opportunities to improve project development, VM processes and approaches; champion and share best practice and promote compliance to recognised standards
- Ensure health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of activities.
- Recommending new and innovative approaches for improving project development and VM activities.
Candidates will ideally:
- Have previous experience working in a similar role OR has a relevant qualification / degree.
- Be able to identify appropriate metrics for analysis and interpretation of information.
- Have strong investment appraisal and optimisation techniques, such as value-for-money processes, criteria and financial evaluation methods etc.
- Have knowledge of relevant legislative and regulatory frameworks.
- Have knowledge of sustainability principles and the application of sustainable development.
- Have good stakeholder management experience.
- Have a good understanding of relevant technical asset policies and strategies.
- Have a good understanding of VM processes and costs benefits analysis.
