My client, a major Consultant Engineers, have asked me to assist in identifying and successfully placing you an ambitious and motivated Transport Planner at their office in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

If you have some post-grad experience and skills in transport modelling, scheme appraisal and business case development then you could be the ideal candidate.

My client works on high profile projects across the North East and Yorkshire - in fact globally - that cover all modes of transport.

You would gain the skills and experience necessary to become a Chartered Transport Planning Professional, and this would be fully supported.


Examples of their current projects and clients include:

Investigating the upgrade of large sections of the A1 in Yorkshire and A64 in York as part of a Technical Advisors role for Highways England

Supporting local authorities across the North-East, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire in developing public transport, highway, walking and cycling schemes as part of the Transforming Cities Fund

Supporting local authority clients across the North East in developing their Levelling-Up Fund bids

Developing business cases for major transport and regeneration schemes across towns and cities including Newcastle, Gateshead, Leeds, Halifax, Sheffield and Bradford

Supporting the introduction of the North-East Clean Air Zone, with the development of a new strategic transport model, air quality modelling and option development

Development of strategic transport models for Calderdale, Kirklees, Sheffield City Region and Leeds

Microsimulation modelling



You will report to an Associate Director within a collaborative team and office environment. As part of the role, you will support on the delivery of a wide range of different transport planning projects and will need good analytical and communication skills. It is expected that you will help to provide on the job training to their graduates and apprentices.

Support will be given to you in the role by other like-minded individuals and a team of Lead Verifiers with national recognition in many areas of transport planning. Collectively, you will form a team that delivers quality products, that satisfies the needs of our clients, funding bodies and the Department for Transport.


Job Responsibilities:

As a Transport Planner, you will be an important member of the Transport Planning team in Newcastle. You will work with the team leader and project managers to specify and deliver transport planning projects for a range of different clients. Key responsibilities will include:

Analysing data to inform transport planning projects
Using GIS to present data
Undertaking transport modelling to inform scheme appraisal and business case development
Undertaking the economic appraisal of transport schemes
Supporting the delivery of Business Cases for a range of different transport proposals
Supporting at client meetings to communicate findings
Supporting at stakeholder events
Preparing other technical reports
Providing support to our graduates and apprentices
Minimum Requirements
Experience in transport modelling with some experience in SATURN, VISUM or CUBE is desirable
Understanding of the business case process and TAG guidance
Experience in appraisal techniques including industry-standard packages such as TUBA
Data analysis and processing skills
Excellent numeracy and communication skills
Ability to work effectively in an unsupervised environment, or working within a project team


Preferred Qualifications:

Educated to degree level.
