Job description

Job Title: Land / Topographic Surveyor
Location: Swindon (Wider site-travel required)
Sector: Rail, Surveying
Job Type: Permanent
Salary: £28,000 to £34,000 Per Annum + Package (Negotiable on experience)

Our client, a multi-disciplined contractor with the infrastructure sector (Rail/Water/Highways), is currently recruiting for a Land Surveyor / Topographical Surveyor, to join their in-house Surveying department on a permanent basis, predominately working on projects within their Rail division. This role will entail joining a growing department (associated towards drainage surveying), who complete work including but not limited to Topographical surveys, manhole surveys, pump station surveys, CSO surveys and Impermeable area surveys etc.

This role will be based near Swindon, however will require travel to projects across our clients South West region (i.e Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Bristol etc), initially completing work for internal and existing external Infrastructure clients, as well as new clients in the future. The aim of this role is to help reduce the use of subcontractors used to complete topographical surveys, increasing the efficiency/quality/profitability of the department.

Following on from this, there is a structured business plan in place, to offer development and progression for the right candidate. This progression plan will vary on how fast the applicable candidate can progress through the role and help to grow the department/client base.

Daily duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Visiting projects and completing surveying work, using a range of equipment such as robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, 3D Laser scanners, processing and presenting survey data to the operations teams.
  • Undertaking topographical surveys on projects within the Infrastructure sector, bias towards rail projects.
  • Bringing work in house, rather than subcontracting work out.
  • Providing ideas on how to help grow the team and in time mentoring junior surveyors.

Candidates will ideally:

  • Hold relevant qualifications such as a degree, CSCS card, PTS etc.
  • Have previous experience (circa 10 years) completing topographical/land surveying within the infrastructure sector (Rail bias is preferable).
  • Be experienced in the use of various surveying equipment and software, including but not limited to robotic total stations, GNSS, 3D Laser Scanners, Terrestrial Survey software as well as QA Checks, modelling software, n4ce, AutoCAD etc.
