Our client, an established international company who design, manufacture and sell Geotechnical, Environmental and Structural Monitoring instrument, are currently looking for a Technical Support Specialist (Customer Support for Geotechnical Instruments) to join their team on a permanent basis, in the Stowmarket, Suffolk area. Our client provides reliable and market leading instruments that help to service the Construction, Infrastructure and Mining industries, allowing data to be effectively and accurately monitored and measured, via project activities.

The role of Technical Support Specialist we entail providing prompt technical support for all Instruments and products sold/hired, being a key member of the customer services team, offering a customer focused approach. The role would suit candidates who are detail oriented, organized and technically competent and whilst this is an office-based role, you will also get the opportunity to travel to customer's sites, for field service work, that includes: supervising equipment installation, installation works where required, commissioning, troubleshooting and equipment maintenance.

Please note: Our client works in the UK, but also internationally and whilst travel will be minimal, there may be an infrequent need to work away from home, for short periods of time.

Job Description:

  • Responding to Customer emails and phone calls, pertaining to technical support for all Instruments supplied (geotechnical instruments).
  • Liaising directly with customers, troubleshooting and providing resolutions to their technical problems in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Maintaining continual communication with management and work cohesively with sales, production, engineering and quality team members across the organization.
  • Conducting pre-installation testing of geotechnical instruments and instrumentation equipment.
  • Providing over the phone technical supervision during installation of geotechnical engineering instrumentation specifically: piezometers, extensometers, inclinometers, load cells, wiring etc.
  • Installing, configuring and servicing datalogger equipment and network infrastructure.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing malfunctioning and/or damaged instruments.
  • Carrying out data checks, data reductions, data interpretations and trouble-shooting of data from various geotechnical and civil instruments.
  • Travel to customer sites to:
    • Install, configure and service data logging and networking equipment.
    • Supervise and/or install geotechnical instruments and sensors.
    • Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning and/or damaged systems.
  • Analyzing sensor data.
  • Creating site data visualization projects in Geoviewer software.
  • Creating technical reports, such as documentation of progress/completed work.
  • Assisting other teams with technical inquiries, testing, assembly, and equipment troubleshooting.

Candidates will ideally have:

  • A relevant technical qualification, such as a BEng in Geotechnical, Civil, Mechanical of Electrical Engineering (or similar).
  • Prior experience of using geotechnical instrumentation, telemetry, electronics, communications (or similar), including piezometers, extensometers, inclinometers, load cells, dataloggers, etc.
  • Prior knowledge of electronics, programming.
  • Strong networking experience, being customer focused, with strong communication skills.
  • Strong Presentation skills.
  • Willingness to get trained on new products, then providing training to customers and colleagues.
