Anderselite are currently recruiting on behalf of a tier one contractor for a site engineer, working on the construction of multiple drainage systems across a highways maintenance scheme in Birmingham. These works will involve establishing compounds, implementing temporary works solutions, attenuation tanks, pumping stations, lifting operations and various drainage types.

You will be supported by the Section Engineer (among others). You are expected to take ownership of the site works on the section, contributing to planning the works and ensuring that the works are constructed in accordance with the design and contract scopes.

Key Responsibilities

• Teamwork
o Communicate effectively with other engineers, supervisors, enabling functions, designers, and client representatives.
o Contribute to an effective working environment for your team.

• Design
o Write temporary works design briefs to a standard accepted by the Section Engineer & Temporary Works Coordinator
o Review designs and raise any queries to your section engineer.
o Production of red-line drawings for your works.

• Programme and planning
o Contribute to the project 4 week lookahead programme weekly for your works.
o Work with the section engineer and supervisors to manage any clashes with other site works.
o Record progress and compare it to planned production for your section.
o Contribute to plans for your works section considering sequences, constraints and interfaces and communicate them with relevant stakeholders.

• Commercial
o Keep an accurate and detailed site record for all works. Communicate any change to your section engineer.
o Raise requisitions for plant and materials in a timely and accurate manor.
o Understand the subcontract scope of works and ensure that this is followed by the suppliers.

• Quality
o Set out the works in accordance with the design.
o Understand the design specifications and drawings for your section.
o Contribute to Inspection and Test Plans for your works.
o Check delivered materials are as per design and order.
o Ensure quality records are captured and stored correctly.
o Identify Non-Conformances and ensure they are promptly reported & closed out.

• Safety
o Be familiar with and demonstrate commitment to the requirements of the Health & Safety Policies and procedures (both for the Client and Skanska).
o Ensure that the Construction Team, Sub-Contractors and Suppliers receive or have access to copies of the relevant Health and Safety policies and procedures and are kept informed of relevant developments and issues.
o Collaborate with others to plan your works to minimise health and safety hazards.
o Generate Risk Assessments and Method Statements for your works, ensuring that they identify and appropriately mitigate health and safety hazards.
o Complete safety inspections and ensure the actions are closed out.
o Set and maintain clear expectations for health and safety with your team and suppliers working on your section.

• Environment
o Be familiar with and demonstrate commitment to the requirements of the Environmental Policies and procedures.
o Collaborate with others to plan your works to minimise environmental hazards.
o Generate Risk Assessments and Method Statements for your works, ensuring that they identify and appropriately mitigate environmental hazards.
o Complete environmental inspections and ensure the actions are closed out.
o Set and maintain clear expectations for environmental management with your team and suppliers working on your section.
o Identify and implement opportunities to reduce carbon associated with your section.

Required Qualifications & Skills
This section sets out the qualifications and skills that are required to successfully perform this role.

• Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering
• Effective written and verbal communication skills to diverse audiences.
• Knowledge and understanding of engineering principles.
• Working towards or in possession of Professional Industry Qualification (IEng, CEng etc.).
• Competence with digital tools.
• Formal training in Health & Safety and Environmental management (SMSTS)
• Relevant CSCS Card
• Setting and experience using engineering surveying tools.

Preferred experience
The following areas of experience would be beneficial to you performing this role.

• Excavation works (HSG47, CAT & Genny scanning)
• Drainage works (prior experience as a site-based engineer).
• Earthworks (prior experience as a site-based engineer).
