Group HSE Manager
South and Midlands
Up to £48,000 per annum

As a large national Telecom Service, my client is currently looking to recruit a Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Manager to work within the SHEQ Team covering East Anglia, the Midlands, Lincolnshire and the South of England. This is an area based role and will involve travelling between offices. As the successful candidate for the role, you will be joining at an exciting time in telecoms within a fast and dynamic team. Charged with providing accurate and effective SHE management to all staff operating across utility, construction and street works projects.

Day to day business will involve you to:

  • Determine site compliance against company, client and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure delivery of legislative compliance and promotion of continuous improvement of safety performance.
  • Foster the development of SHEQ skills within operational line management.
  • To ensure consistent implementation of SHEQ standards across the contract.
  • Support operational personnel to deliver their SHEQ responsibilities.

Experience Required:

  • Experience, knowledge and application of the utilities/construction industry.
  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of legislative requirements and best practice in Safety, Health and Environment.
  • Experience of managing a team of SHE Advisors.

Qualifications Required:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
  • NRSWA Supervisor
  • Full, clean driving licence


  • Manage and improve the Safety Management System.
  • Manage accreditations including OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001, ISO14001; Achilles, Safe Contractor, etc.
  • Identify SHE hazards and establish guidelines for mitigation.
  • Identify Legislation and establish procedures for compliance.
  • Provide support and guidance to operational management.
  • Engage staff and contractors on SHE performance on a day to day basis and support the delivery of objectives and targets.
  • Ensure all CDM appointments are up to date and post holders have had successful competency assessments.
  • Establish and maintain standards for protective equipment.
  • Implement the contract SHEQ Plan.
  • Manage a team of SHE Advisors.
  • Implement site audit programmes.
  • Ensure an appropriate method of auditing is utilised.
  • Analyse audit data, identify trends and report.
  • Assist with and / or lead incident investigations; provide advice, support and guidance on legal framework. Ensure that learning points are fed into the SHE department for continued improvement of policy and standards etc.
  • Interface with both internal departments and the Client regarding incident management.
  • Generate learning documents from incidents.
  • Promote incident, hazard, near miss and positive reporting.
  • Organise and prepare planned and ad-hoc briefings and team events.
  • Ensure reporting of appropriate SHE data.
  • Collate and manage data for key performance indicators.
  • Prepare internal and external reports.
  • Chair SHE meetings with operational management.
  • Communicate regularly with the line manager regarding issues identified on site and on-going issues, both internal and client.
  • Assist with audits by internal and external bodies.
  • Support tender exercises and submissions.
  • Liaise with the training department regarding fulfilment of the training plan.
  • Attend meetings as and when required to assist with SHE management.
  • Participation in on-call rotas (on an ad-hoc basis).
  • Other tasks as directed by line manager.
