Location: Negotiable - Travel to projects nationwide required - Large amount of projects South England.

Our client, a multi-disciplined contractor with the infrastructure sector (Highways/Rail/Water), is currently recruiting for a Senior Land Surveyor / Senior Topographical Surveyor, to join their in-house Surveying department on a permanent basis, to oversee and head up the in-house topographical surveying resource, quickly progressing to Service Delivery Manager level. This role will entail growing the department over 12 months+, aligning the business more closely with the core expertise (associated drainage surveying), including but not limited to Topographical surveys, manhole surveyors, pump station surveys, CSO surveys and Impermeable area surveys.

Initially, the role will be both field and depot based, which will entail working with internal and existing external Infrastructure clients, to identify opportunities of work, reduce the use of subcontractors used to complete topographical surveys, establishing a small network of suppliers per geographic region, then allocating workload to dedicated teams, or personally completing work, overall increasing the efficiency/quality/profitability of work carried out.

Following on from this, there is a structured business plan in place, to offer development and progression for the right candidate, whereby the role will become increasingly office based. This progression plan will vary on how fast the applicable candidate can progress through the role and grow the department/client base.

Please note: You will initially be required to travel to projects across the UK, until the division grows.

Daily duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing all in-house topographical surveying operations, bringing work in house, rather than subcontracting work out.
  • Initially completing nationwide site visits and undertaking topographical surveys (first 12 months), using a range of equipment such as robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, 3D Laser scanners, processing and presenting survey data to the operations teams.
  • In time, growing a team and mentoring surveyors, then allocating their workload, providing training and support, as well as liaising with clients to develop existing and new business.
  • Growing the department, recruiting additional surveying staff over the course of employment.
  • Controlling the day to day operations of topographical surveying staff and equipment resource.
  • Producing cost estimates and job quotations, inclusive of financial management client liaison and quality control.

Candidates will ideally:

  • Hold qualifications including CSCS card and PTS. (Advantageous).
  • Have previous experience (circa 10 years) completing topographical/land surveying within the infrastructure sector (Rail/Water/Highways).
  • Be experienced in the use of various surveying equipment and software, including but not limited to robotic total stations, GNSS, 3D Laser Scanners, Terrestrial Survey software as well as QA Checks, modelling software, n4ce, AutoCAD etc.
  • Have managed multiple surveyors previously. (Advantageous).
  • Be driven to grow a department / team, improving on internal efficiency.
