Location: This position is based in Dartford and is commutable from Surrey, Kent, Essex, East London, South London, Bromley, Romford, Maidstone, Rochester, Croydon

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum

Our client a Construction organisation based in Dartford, are seeking a senior SQL Server DBA to work in a role that encompasses BAU SQL estate administration, setting strategy, defining road maps and being the SME for SQL Server to the wider business. The DBA would be responsible for the smooth running of all the entire SQL estate within the organisation as well as patching and upgrading as required. Key responsibilities:

  • Excellent understanding of change management under the ITIL framework within a medium or large organisation
  • ITIL and PRINCE2 qualifications are highly desirable
  • MS MCITP or MCSE in SQL Server 2008 or above
  • To be an active member of the SQL Server Community is highly desirable
  • Ability to work on your own and as part of a wider team
  • Ability to script in T-SQL
  • Ability to think logically, analyse situations, solve technical problems
  • Excellent document writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex requirements
  • Ability to communicate complex systems to non-technical staff
  • Ability to effectively communicate in written and spoken English with all levels of the business
  • Managing internal / external relationships as a technical subject matter expert
  • Strong Influencing skills - Ability to make things happen when not in a position of direct control and push back where necessary.
  • Sound decision-making
  • Able to participate as a member of a multi-disciplined team
  • Confident and able to operate independently within defined guidelines;
  • Good working knowledge of ITIL concepts as regards infrastructure.

Key Technical Knowledge:

  • SME - MS SQL 2000/2014
  • SME DR and HA techniques in SQL Server
  • Solid Understanding of SQL Server performance tuning techniques
  • Solid Understanding of the MS SQL Licensing models
  • Solid Understanding of MS Azure (DBAAS, IFAAS)
  • Solid Understanding of Solid understanding of Microsoft Server OS (2008/2012)
  • Solid understanding of MS Cluster Technologies
  • Solid understanding of Fibre SAN Technology
  • Solid understanding of RAID technology
  • Solid understanding of PRINCE 2 and working within an ITIL framework
  • Knowledge of Solarwinds
  • Knowledge of CommVault
  • Knowledge of PowerShell for SQL Server
  • Knowledge of Oracle / Progress is desirable but not essential
