Commercial Manager - Civil Engineering / Water Projects - Lancashire based - please email to apply

The client

My client, a busy well established regional civil engineering contractor based in Lancashire are recruiting for a Commercial Manager to run the water projects. Typical projects are waste water treatment plants, civil engineering, sewerage, drainage, water pipelines etc.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage the commercial team to ensure maximum financial returns and positive cashflow
Manage commercial reporting process internally and externally
Making sure subcontracts are properly managed in accordance with contract requirements including compliance with all responses to communications, including payments, compensation events, programme submissions, etc., and that all contract files are maintained and kept up to date
Manage the procurement process ensuring that all strategies are developed and agreed and that tender processes are followed correctly.
Development of supply chain relationships with suppliers and sub-contractors for the benefit of projects
Making sure final accounts are prepared timely and accurately
Subcontractors are properly managed in accordance with contract requirements including: compliance, communications, payments, compensation events and programme submissions.
Ensure robust cost management is undertaken at all times including: accurate live forecasting and actual costs vs estimates.
Ensure that accurate and trusted records are kept so that all financial information for audits and cost assurance is readily available.
Making sure actual costs are properly monitored and assessed against the baseline estimate, in particular, all site costs including direct labour, plant & materials, all alliance staff bookings, costs and challenge and variance to the plans
Continually strives to develop processes and procedures to ensure standardisation across the commercial teams delivery process
Looks to develop members of the team with commercial knowledge and experience gained over numerous years in industry
Candidate requirements

Commercial management experience with a civil engineering contractor
Relevant experience on challenging and diverse projects with major clients e.g UU
Experience using NEC 3 / NEC 4 conditions of contract
Experience working on a framework or in a collaborative environment
Experience managing/Leading a team
Solid and varied commercial/contractual knowledge
Relevant project experience - waste water treatment plants, civil engineering, sewerage, drainage, water pipelines etc.
Personality traits

Confident in making decisions by using commercial expertise to influence the businesses decisions.
Confident in professionally challenging current ways of working to drive continuous improvements across the business.
Ability to juggle a number of projects and tasks at the same time
