Job description

Senior Surveyor (Land)

We are recruiting for a Senior Surveyor to work on Highways England's flagship Smart Motorways Programme. We are improving the 37.9km (23.6 miles) section of the M1 between junctions 13 and 16, which passes through Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire and provides connections to the towns of Bedford, Milton Keynes and Northampton. The project will involve upgrading this section to an All-Lane Running (ALR) smart motorway.

Role Overview:

The team has expanded in recent times and with strong project performance along with successful work winning, we are continuing to build and re-structure the business including operations for Highways England, Local Authorities and Highway Maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Competent in land surveying techniques and able to carry out unsupervised field work.
  • Have an awareness of the latest advancements in surveying technology including GPS and laser scanners in addition to the latest setting out and monitoring techniques including Trimble and other survey equipment.
  • Able to communicate the setting out to other on-site disciplines.
  • Establish and maintain horizontal and vertical survey control networks.
  • Carry out instrument calibrations and produce good quality QA records for all surveying work.
  • Process and present topographical surveys.
  • Undertake surveys to comply with ITP systems (Quality control)
  • Carry out and present as-built surveys.
  • Understand and interpret drawings and other electronic design information.
  • Display good understanding with regard to surveying equipment and its cost.
  • Able to present data electronically and produce drawings, cross sections, graphs and spreadsheets to the satisfaction of the site teams and the client
  • Able to plan and oversee the shift work of a surveying team
  • Keen to develop your skills as a civil engineering surveyor

Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a similar role on highways schemes.
  • Good attitude to safety and holder of a CSCS card and SSSTS training.
  • Experienced user of surveying software-AutoCAD, (Civil 3D experience is preferable) and LSS
