Job Title: Senior Estimator (Civil Engineering Bias)
Location: Derby (Severn Trent Water Region)
Sector: Water (AMP6 / AMP7), Utilities, Infrastructure, Civil Engineering
Software: Causeway Estimating Software experience required
Job Type: Permanent role
Salary: Circa £48,000 - £54,000 Per Annum + Package (Negotiable on level)

Our client, a large contractor within the Civil Engineering sector, is currently searching for a Senior Estimator to join their team on a permanent basis, at their regional office in Derby. This role will include working on projects within their Water & Utilities sector, including projects part of the AMP7 cycle, within the Severn Trent Water region.

We are ideally looking for candidates who have prior experience working on projects within the Water or Utility sectors, who are biased towards Civil Engineering.

The role will include estimating, procurement and cost control for upcoming framework projects, using Causeway Estimating Software. Having a working knowledge of NEC forms of contract is highly advantageous (NEC3 or ideally NEC4 - NEC4 is not essential but is preferable).

Daily duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Creating Civil Engineering project estimates to support the wider team when setting project budgets.
  • Generating target prices for projects using schedule or rates.
  • Supporting the team with any cost change queries or valuation exercises.
  • Working with stakeholders to understand requirements, in order to accurately set target prices.
  • Resolving all price related issues.
  • Assisting with managing and updating schedule of rates.
  • Identifying potential risks and opportunities, for project cost reductions.
  • Producing quantities and take-offs from outline and details drawings.
  • Carrying out pricing, in the design phase to support with project optioneering.
  • Assisting with the management of cost information.
  • Supporting the Commercial team in the settling final accounts.

Candidates will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as an Estimator or Senior Estimator, on projects within the Water or Utility Sectors (AMP6 would be ideal).
  • Previous experience using Causeway Estimating Software.
  • Strong expertise within Estimating, being able to produce estimates from first principles (labour, equipment, materials), also being able to assess direct and indirect costs.
  • Hold a relevant qualification, such as a Degree in Construction, Civil Engineering, Cost Estimating or Quantity Surveying (or equivalent).
  • Have working knowledge of NEC forms of contract (NEC3 or ideally NEC4 - NEC4 is not essential but is preferable).
  • Strong IT, communication, negotiation, analytical and numerical skills.
  • Good team working ability.
