Salary: Circa £54,000 to £59,000 Per Annum + Package (Negotiable on relevant experience)

Our client, a large Civil Engineering contractor who operate within the Civil Engineering, Infrastructure and Construction sectors, are currently recruiting a Senior Estimator, to join their team on a permanent basis. The role will entail working within a new business unit, focused towards the Power & Energy sectors (i.e. Power Generation/Distribution, Waste Processing, Heavy Industrial Construction etc).

This is an exciting role that will help to expand the current business unit, in turn helping the overall business to significantly grow over the coming years. Their current pipeline of work comes from existing clients, however you will also be involved in with working with new clients in the future, giving you the opportunity to work within a growing team. In this role, you will be part of a team delivering projects ranging in value from £10 Million to £100+ Million.

Day to day duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining tender database & risk scoring system for new tenders, updating systems and surrounding the team throughout the tender process.
  • Reviewing tender documentation to fully understand the scope of works.
  • Establishing and communicating estimating tender timeline.
  • Attending review meetings.
  • Quantifying works involved from tender documents, by taking off and producing a logical bill of quantities, in a recognised standard form, including identification of method related items.
  • Engaging early in tenders, with the bid team, to identify proposed works delivery method and preferred supply chain partners.
  • Leading engagement with supply chain, to maximise commercial opportunities and savings during the bid process.
  • Overseeing the production of subcontract & materials enquiries and review subsequent quotations.
  • Preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates, from first principals, for a wide variety of civil engineering works, predominately in the Power, Waste & Heavy Industrial sectors.
  • Working with tender, planner and operational staff, to ensure agreed work sequence and methodology is reflected in pricing.
  • Checking labour & plant resources accumulated in the cost estimate, with those derived from the tender programme and review as required.
  • Preparing an accurate cost estimate for the preliminary resources required to carry out the works, in accordance with agreed programme & engineering requirements.
  • Identifying and recording potential risks and opportunities associated with the tender documents.
  • Participating in risk reviews of tenders, to inform bid decisions in conjunction with Pre-Construction and Operational staff.
  • Preparing & presenting the prime cost estimate for the tender, to the Senior Leadership Team, for adjudication and approval.
  • Preparing pricing documents in the correct format, for submission to the Client
  • Overseeing and ensuring maintenance of a controlled copy of tender documents, submissions and any resultant communications.
  • On acceptance of tender by the client, assisting in checking that proposed contract reflects the enquiry documents and subsequent offer.
  • Preparing and presenting tender handover documents to the contract delivery team.
  • Liaising with the construction teams, at scheme close out meetings, to ensure outputs and resource data are collected, providing feedback for future tenders.

Candidates will ideally have:

  • A relevant industry qualification, such as a Degree, ONC, HNC or NVQ Equivalent.
  • Previous experience working in a similar role, having delivered similar Civil Engineering schemes, ideally within the Power / Waste / Heavy Industrial Construction sectors.
  • Experience of delivering projects ranging from £10 Million to £100+ Million in value.
  • Working knowledge of industry specific working restrictions & health and safety legislation etc.
  • Working knowledge of ConQuest Estimating Software.
  • Working knowledge of standard forms of contract, such as NEC, JCT and FIDIC.
  • Have working knowledge of Civil Engineering, including but not limited to, groundworks, earthworks, foundations, piling, forms works, drainage, access roads and cabling/ducting for projects such as EfW plants, substations, national grid projects, power bays, new quarry's, waste processing/transfer facilities etc.
