Senior Development Engineer
Manchester Based
Sector Housing and Residential Apartment Schemes
Reporting to Head of Technical
Up to 65k

Main Purpose of the Role:


You will be involved in the construction of Houses and Apartment schemes, will have knowledge of structural engineering involved in ground engineering up to 'First Fixed floor' interpreting design plans being able to input the practical cost saving in value engineering.
Relates to feasibility, planning and programming start on site and the required enabling works to facilitate the development and securing all necessary consents to enable projects to commence; liaison and support of other departments along with providing technical information and resolving technical issues along with providing support of the pre-contract application process.


Key Accountabilities:


* Responsible for undertaking due diligence reviews of technical information packs for both private and mixed tenure housing developments in order to highlight any technical and legal issues and advising client on technical viability of new land in conjunction.
* Involvement and co-ordination of the planning process and assisting in the production of the supporting reports and plans in conjunction with client development.
* Preparing and reviewing engineering schematics and technical reports for land appraisals including the proposed discharge rates/surface water storage requirements and the implications of SUDS methodology.
* Brief and commission site investigations, topographical surveys and other assessment reports for land and development purposes as required.
* Brief architectural and engineering consultants on scope of design; negotiations with statutory bodies on environmental, drainage, highway and other engineering issues.
* Manage technical submissions for approval by statutory authorities e.g. S38, S278, S104, S278, S185, S98 agreements; fee negotiations and appointment of consultants for planning and construction as required.
* Evaluate drainage, highway, external works, private drainage, setting out details, cut & fill isopaches, foundation designs at feasibility stage and throughout the construction phase considering any changes to the proposed works e.g. revised planning layout, unforeseen ground conditions etc.
* Site experience includes undertaking the role of Engineer's Representative on site, providing technical support for construction during site works and undertaking topographic, level and drainage surveys.
* Supervision and management of engineering consultants including sub-contractors and co-ordinating the information flow between relevant parties via the document controller and dedicated cloud or document management systems.
* Liaison with all relevant external bodies, consultants and architects to ensure satisfactory production information and document flow to maximise buildability and value engineering processes along with ensuring specific designer risk assessment have been carried out.
* Understand how the design aspects of a construction project influence and relate to performance and functional issues, so that practical questions can be addressed at the outset and evaluate and advise on environmental, legal and regulatory issues.
* Liaise with appropriate authorities (e.g. planning enquiries, building inspectors, drainage and highway engineers) when producing documentation for statutory approval.
* Carry out design-stage risk assessments and assess RAMS for advice on inherent risks.

Relevant Experience needed


* An excellent knowledge of construction and architectural, civil, structural and geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering techniques in the residential sector.
* A successful track record of technical co-ordination with respect to engineering and utilities matters.
* You must also be proficient in the use of AutoCAD/PDS/Micro drainage.
* A background in house building, architectural or design preferably with the housing sector or practise.
* A clear understanding of Health and Safety legislation with CDM and Principal Designer.
* Excellent IT skills and environment awareness.
* HND or equivalent preferred.
