Job description


Having secured a number of long term Frameworks, our Clients are further expanding their in-house Civil & Structural Design team. They have a number of positions available at various levels for engineers who are committed to delivering optimum design solutions.

This is a senior role, with responsibility for the development of technical solutions in addition to programme & budgetary control, SHEQ considerations, and the coaching and mentoring of colleagues.

Key tasks and responsibilities

Initiative and confidence to put forward solutions based on sound engineering principles.

CRE (Design) experience on Network Rail schemes. Design and Checking of engineering solutions.

Production of clear, consistent, referenced calculations, reports and sketches to current CoP and Standards.

Design representative at meetings with the AmcoGiffen project team and/or external Clients and Stakeholders.

Ensure work is delivered within the team's financial, quality and programme targets. Promote safe working practices in all areas.

Assist change and develop more efficient processes and design tools to assist the efficient delivery of engineering services.

Mentor and coach team members.

Person specification

Minimum of 5 years' experience in the design of Civil Engineering structures.

Minimum of 3 years' experience in assessment and design, ideally of railway bridges and station structures; this should include the planning and undertaking of condition surveys for Assessment.

Proven and effective co-ordination of workload and management of staff.

Experience in rail with associated understanding of bridges, earthworks, drainage and highways interfaces.

Appreciation of factors influencing the buildability of design solutions, including engagement with planners, estimators and construction staff to establish the most sustainable, efficient and economic methods of construction and use of materials within the boundaries of technical requirements.

Experience of working on multi-disciplinary projects

Confident at designing in steel, concrete, composites, masonry and timber.

Working knowledge of relevant Structural Assessment and Design software packages.

Awareness of ISO 9001 / 14001 / 44001, PAS 1192 and OHSAS 18001 Standards.

Understanding of SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) requirements.

Understands the importance of achieving customer satisfaction by driving and maintaining the highest level of standards and working collaboratively.

Good organisational, communication, reporting and presentation skills.


MEng / MSc Degree level of education, or equivalent.

Incorporated / Chartered Member of a relevant Professional Body.


Professionally Qualified Person, or similar

H & S requirements

Detailed understanding of current CDM Regulations.


Other requirements

Full driving licence

BIM responsibilities

Working knowledge of the BIM processes and working to AmcoGiffen BIM procedure
