Job description

We currently have a permanent opportunity for a Senior Civils/ Structural Design Engineer with rail experience to join a growing multi-disciplinary consultancy with a busy orderbook and strong career development prospects.

Due to an array of upcoming projects, including rail works such as platform extensions, bridges, UTX's, footbridges, etc., their growing team are looking for an experienced engineer, with a choice of several locations to be based from around the London/ Kent area, to best suit your circumstances.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the production of civil and structural engineering schemes, feasibility studies, inspections, surveys and reports.
  • Preparing and checking design schemes, drawings, calculations and specifications, including the use of Eurocodes, British Standards and Network Rail Group and Company standards.
  • Drafting site instructions, certificates and contract correspondence.
  • Working effectively to deliver and manage projects within cost, time, profitability and quality requirements.
  • Obtaining third party approvals, liaison with Clients, statutory bodies, other professionals and the public.
  • Interpretation of client requirements and project definition, liaising with clients as appropriate.
  • Supervising and training employees with less experience or qualifications.
  • Liaison with clients, statutory bodies, professional advisors, contractors, insurance companies, general public and others.
  • Visiting sites for various purposes including surveying, contract supervision, valuations or site safety.
  • Complying with Health & Safety and CDM Regulations.
  • Inspecting and supervising site works and undertaking contract administrative duties.
  • Carrying out overnight and weekend working when required e.g. in relation to rail possession works.

To be considered, you must have a detailed knowledge of structural principles and design, alongside experience in the design and management of civil and structural engineering works, and an in-depth understanding of relevant codes of practice, design standards and H&S legislation.

You don't necessarily need to be chartered but will ideally be working towards this. You should also hold a degree in civil engineering and have relevant experience in the rail sector.
