Section Engineer

Up to £45'000 per annum DOE

Working with a large blue chip contractor I am recruiting for a Section Engineer to work on an upcoming highways improvements scheme in Preston. This is working on a large project for an established Tier 1 contractor. Projects will include road construction, road widening and improvements.

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and supporting the Project Manager and senior project team in the overall implementation of the engineering strategy and framework for the designated project;
  • Developing and managing materials, plant and labour within the allocated budget and resources, ensuring their safe, effective and efficient delivery of service on the project;
  • Assisting in the development of all systems, design information, procedures and quality systems are effectively communicated for the project and ensure that they are satisfactorily communicated and implemented;
  • Supporting the project delivery teams, verifying the work of others, providing robust technical support;
  • Leading or supporting assurance on projects through conducting audits and regular meetings with project teams, identifying best practice, areas for improvement and areas of concern, including matters relating to safety, finance or quality;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with relevant customers including technical consultants and suppliers, managing their input in the design, development, pricing and delivery of technical solutions for the project.

Key qualifications and attributes:

  • Have experience at producing detailed records and correspondence for commercial recovery;
  • A degree in a relevant engineering discipline and a relevant professional qualification, such as MICE or MIStructE, or having an ONC/HNC;
  • Have a strong knowledge and management of construction process in one or more of the following areas: Earthworks/Drainage, Pavement, Comms, Structures, Roadworks;
  • Understand the Organisational Business Management Systems and processes;
  • Track record of solution orientated approach to issue resolution;
  • Understand the principles of Accident/Incident Investigation and have a good working knowledge of the process;
  • Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card. SSSTS or SMSTS qualified.
