Job description

I am currently looking to recruit a Safety & Compliance Engineer (Multi-Utilities) to join a very well established Utility Infrastructure Provider.

The Safety & Compliance Engineer will be part of a focused team that is committed to the design, construction and operation of quality gas and electric distribution networks.

The Safety & Compliance Engineer will assist with the management of all Health and Safety (H&S) related matters and ensure compliance with both industries (e.g. IGEM/ENA) and the company's own internal policies and standards relating to Operational aspects of the business.

The successful candidates primary role is to oversee H&S related matters and to monitor both the implementation and compliance with the company's technical and engineering policies and procedures.

Provide effective liaison with both Operations team members and the UIP/ICP partners, Contractors and other Service Providers with regard to H&S and compliance related matters as well as liaising with other internal departments to provide support with H&S and compliance related enquiries/issues associated with the activities of the company.

You will also be expected to provide assurance that the assets that are being designed, installed, tested and commissioned are fit for business purpose, complying with Industry/Regulatory and Legislative Standards and requirements.

The main responsibilities for this position include:

Ensure compliance with the internal design and construction policies and standards as well as all Policies and Procedures are implemented and followed by all UIPs/ICPs, Contractors and Service Providers employed by the company.

Ensure compliance with design, construction and safety standards as appropriate and requirements of the company's Health and Safety Policy are met.

Ensure that the requirements of the company's Asset Management System are met and participate in reviews and updates of the current operational procedures and technical standards.

Implementation and monitoring of Technical and Safety Audit regime, in collaboration with external auditors. This may include involvement with on-site audits and inspections as and when required.

Assistance with the management of Technical Library and participate, from time to time as required, in the out of hour's standby rota.

Some of the attributes and skills we are looking for:

  • A recognised H&S qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH would be desirable for this role.
  • Ideally you will have knowledge of the selection and procurement of materials to be used in the construction of gas and electric distribution networks.
  • Possess an innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Have the ability to adopt a wider perspective than the immediate bounds of the job description.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • A Team Player.
