Company Details
My client undertakes turnkey projects for major blue-chip clients, including ground/civil engineering works, steel frames and access metalwork, cladding, masonry, joinery, full fit out and finishing trades both on new build and refurbishment projects. In addition, they also undertake structural and architectural design as part of their service. They pride themselves on repeat business from many of their longstanding clients and continued close working relationships with their supply chain.
This established client are now looking to expand their growing team, and looking to recruit a qualified Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their experienced and well established team.
Key focus of the Role:
The management and control of financial matters for live site projects and from time to time tendering for new projects. This will include the procurement and management of materials and plant suppliers along with subcontractors and labour only operatives. Full cost control of projects, management of contracts including project variations, production of applications for payment / invoicing and final account resolutions. The role will include design interface and co-ordination between clients, designers and all sub-contractors, as well as materials and sub-contract procurement in a timely manner. Change control is another critical aspect of the role. You may also oversee other quantity surveyors, and so able to manage multiple projects, and actively taking the lead in cost reporting both for your own projects and those of your team.
Previous experience:
Previous experience in projects from the pre-construction and bid stage, responsible for all commercial activity through to project completion. You will be able to take the commercial lead on a variety of projects, with a proven track record on profitable projects as well as being commercially aware. CSCS card, and SSSTS would be an advantage but not essential. Experience in different forms of contract, and specifically NEC would be advantageous.
Other responsibilities include:
* Control of subcontract and materials ordering/procurement including payments and payless notices.
* Responsible for estimating services providing detailed measures, including Bill of Quantities production
* Providing the necessary Contractual Notifications to clients and sub-contractors and projects progress.
* Change control upstream to clients, and through the supply chain
* Management of sub-contract packages on projects in a timely manner protecting the company's contractual position
* Measurements, valuations, and agreement of work sections
* Submission of accurate and timely payment applications, and chasing payment certificates and outstanding payments, working closely with the compay accounts department.
* Ability to identify areas of overspend, waste and commercial risk, and be able to produce feasibility studies and cost plans
* Production of accurate internal cost reporting, in addition to producing final accounts, and extension of time claims
* Working closely with the production department, able to advise on commercial risks and opportunities within projects
* Price tender submissions
* Meet clients and attend site meetings to review and discuss work carried out
* Supply Chain control
* Ability to work in line with and offer improvements to company systems and procedures
* Programme understanding, amendment and reporting, particularly to establish the programme implications through change control.
Person Specification:
You will need strong communication skills, and be able to form good working relationships with all parties. As a team player, you will be able to work in an assertive manner, good at negotiating, with a logical approach to prioritising the tasks in hand. You will also be organised and methodical in your approach to working in accordance with Company Policies and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, as well as being able to adhere to tight deadlines.
Proven IT skills combined with the ability to read and understand technical documents and contract interpretation are key to this role.
Salary :
* £35,000 plus car allowance / pension etc depending on experience for the Quantity Surveyor role
* £35- £47,500 plus car allowance / pension etc depending on experience for the Senior Quantity Surveyor role
