Job Description:
Our client, an established and leading Principal Construction Contractor, operating within Civil Engineering sector, is currently looking for Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors to join their team on a permanent basis. The role sits within their water division and will include working on projects from £1 Million to £20 Million +, where you will alongside the internal contract delivery team to ensure the profitability, cost control, cash management, contractual compliance and accurate reporting of Infrastructure and Non-Infrastructure AMP7 Water projects (Civil Engineering & MEICA).
Quantity Surveyor daily duties:
- Undertaking regular cost to complete (CTC) reviews, monthly cost and value reconciliations and project financial reports, reviewing project programmes and produce detailed CTC forecasts.
- Supporting the contract delivery teams to maximise value and minimise cost; ensuring that appropriate controls are in place to monitor and manage the operating cost base.
- Working with the contract delivery team to deliver/manage performance against Profit Improvement Plan.
- Offering commercial support, to monitor and react to budget variances.
- Reviewing contract documents to ensure that the company is protected from onerous terms and conditions.
- Managing contract commercial aspects with the client including compensation events, extension of time, completion requests etc, also preparing and assisting with the evaluation and submission of quotations for variation works.
- Assessing contract risk, developing mitigation plans, managing commercial performance against vs targets and Framework KPI’s, ensuring cash flow is maximised and debt levels minimised.
- Undertaking final account negotiations, issuing sub-contract tender packages and undertaking contractual evaluation of the tender returns, negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors, managing the commercial aspects of subcontract accounts from procurement to final account agreement; including change management, payment assessments, instructions, notifications, accruals and completion documentation
Senior Quantity Surveyor daily duties:
- Assisting the proposals team to evaluate risk and opportunity during tender preparation.
- Issuing sub-contract tender packages and undertake contractual evaluation of the tender returns.
- Attending post tender and pre-contract meetings.
- Reviewing contract documents to ensure that the company is protected from onerous terms and conditions.
- Assessing contract risk and work with the site team to develop and manage mitigation plans.
- Undertaking cost value reviews with the contract delivery teams.
- Attending internal and external commercial review meetings.
- Managing commercial aspects of subcontract accounts from procurement to final account agreement.
- Final account negotiation achieving the best possible outcome.
- Preparation of / assistance with the evaluation and submission of claims for variation works.
- Working with the commercial and operational teams to strive for continuous improvement.
- Maximising value and minimising cost, ensuring that appropriate controls are in place to monitor cost.
- Manage commercial performance against business targets and Framework KPI’s.
- Promote a culture of integration, continuous improvement and use of best practice across the client base.
- Ensure that roup commercial policies are adhered to and that the requirements of legislation are met.
Candidates will ideally:
- Have previous experience working on AMP6/AMP7 Water projects or heavy civil engineering / MEICA projects.
- Have a relevant qualifications, such as a Degree.
- Have strong NEC knowledge, understanding contractual clauses and identifying risk/onerous conditions.
- Have previous subcontract management experience
- Have previous experience with WIP/Cash management, Resource Scheduling, P&L reporting, CVR’S and forecasting, Change control (EW’s and CE’s), Delay and Disruption, Applications for payment, Risk and Opportunities management.
- Have good commercial, negotiation, communication, organisation and IT skills.
