Salary Range: £36,000 to £40,000 Per Annum + Package (+ Car etc)

Job summary:

Our client, a large multidisciplinary Highways & Civil Engineering Contractor, is looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join their growing team, on a permanent basis. We are ideally looking for Highways bias candidates located in the Yorkshire area, as key projects will include delivery of Highways / Utilities projects in surrounding areas/region. In this role, you will be working with the existing commercial and project management teams, to positively impact existing and upcoming projects, via commercial support and control.

Daily duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Commercially challenge site teams at all times.
  • Ensuring draft/outline CTC's (Cost-To-Complete) are in place, communicating with Project Managers throughout this process.
  • Compiling sub-contract orders required within the Highways & Utilities sides of the business.
  • Attending internal and external commercial review meetings.
  • Producing management information required by the Highways & Utilities sides of the business and taking responsibility for the accuracy of information produced (Provisions, cashflows, Applications, Design & SI targets etc).
  • Negotiating cost with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Managing the commercial aspects of subcontract accounts, from procurement to interim and final account agreements, with significant input from the site managers and project engineering teams.
  • Final account negotiations, achieving the best possible outcome for Highways & Utilities.
  • Preparing / assisting with the evaluation and submission of claims for variation works.
  • Working with the commercial and operational teams to strive for continuous improvement.
  • Maximising value and minimising cost, ensuring that appropriate controls are in place to monitor and manage the operating cost base.
  • Working with the operational teams to deliver and manage performance against the Profit Improvement Plan.
  • Managing commercial performance against business targets and KPI's.
  • Ensuring that the delivery team are briefed and have sufficient commercial support to monitor and react to budget variances.
  • Ensuring that the group commercial policies are adhered to and that the requirements of legislation are met.
  • Ensuring that cash flow is maximised and that payments are received on time.
  • Preparation of monthly management and financial performance reports.
  • Working in conjunction with the project teams to ensure the budgets are not exceeded.
  • Hold responsibility for validating sensitive commercial information, for other team members, prior to submission of information, across the reporting chain.
  • Management of commercial aspects with the client including compensation events, extension of time, completion request etc.

Candidates will ideally:

  • Hold an industry applicable qualification, i.e. ONC/HNC/BSc (or equivalent).
  • Possess commercial and contractual awareness, with a proven track record in a similar position.
  • Demonstrate experience of dealing with multiple clients, various forms of contract and methods of measurement etc.
  • Have worked in a Civil Engineering or Highways environment.
