Job description

Quantity Surveyor - Warwickshire/Birmingham - Construction/Civil Engineering/Water Industry - Permanent Role - £40,000 to £50,000 Per Annum (Negotiable on Experience)

Our client, a large Construction/Civil Engineering & Utilities Contractor, is currently expanding their Commercial department and looking for a Quantity Surveyor, to join their team on a permanent basis. In this role, you will be required to manage the commercial aspects of key contracts, for clients within the Water/Infrastructure sector, reporting into and supporting a Senior Quantity Surveyor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the commercial aspects of a project, maximising margin where possible, via control of contracts and subcontracts.
  • Assist with the control of costs, maximising value & minimising liabilities.
  • Maintaining the required standard of quality and safety on a range of key contracts.
  • Provide commercial expertise to key contracts, including the production and submission of valuations, claims, budget monitoring, and contract/workstream performance data etc.
  • Assess, review and mitigate commercial and contractual risks and implement company policies for risk management
  • Support the authorisation and submission of project variations. To authorise the placement of contracts, subcontracts, material and plant orders
  • Maximise cash flow through the control, measurement (including quality) and valuation of work, and the invoicing of customers and payment of suppliers
  • Value work executed by sub-contractors and certify interim and final payments.
  • Implement company policies including SHE and risk management
  • Promote company values towards customers, in order to meet or exceed their expectations

Candidates will ideally have:

  • Relevant qualifications (I.e. A Degree or HNC in Quantity Surveying)
  • Experience of working on NEC contract options
  • Experience of working on similar projects (Public funded, Water/Infrastructure schemes)
  • Ideally worked on projects part of a larger Framework
  • Proficient IT skills (MS Office in particular Excel)
  • Competent communication skills (written/verbally)
