The client
A privately owned, established civil engineering contractor are looking for a Quantity Surveyor. They work within the roads, utilities, highways, groundworks, water and rail sectors. This client is very busy, they work within a number of the North West civil engineering frameworks. They are very busy in the North West area. The workload is diverse due to the different civil engineering frameworks they work on. A contractor who invests in staff and supports them through Education, personal development or on the jobtraining courses where required.
This clients offers clients the full scope of services required of a civil engineering design and construction contractor . They undertake projects ranging up to £14,000,000 in value across a wide range of clients.
Typical projects include bridges, environmental, flood defence, waste to energy, infrastructure, land reclamation and remediation, landfill, reinforced concrete structures, renewable, retail etc.
The Role
Managing monthly cost reports, as well as forecasting cost and value accurately from commencement of a project through to completion of the project on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
Submission of interim and final valuations promptly
Review contract progress and be proactive in addressing issues, including the issuing of relevant notices as required
Review all issues including providing solutions, costs and advice to ensure successful project completion
Ensure cash flow is maintained and provide early forecasting of any short fall
The procurement, placement of orders, payment, monitoring and review of subcontractors
Agreeing final accounts with clients and subcontractors
Monitor contract costs against agreed budgets - company financial reporting.
Develop and monitor the use of cost and financial reporting systems.
Identify potential risks and evaluate options for control.
Guide and advise staff on contractual issues
Guide and develop site staff, identifying training where necessary
Monitor contract compliance against statutory requirements.
Oversee the procedures for certification for contract payments to sub-contractors
The candidate
The successful applicant will be an experienced Quantity Surveyor who is commercially aware and contractually astute. They will be conversant in the NEC Suite of Contracts FIDIC, ICC and JCT contracts.
Ideally degree qualified in a relevant degree
They will also be an excellent team player who is capable of working individually with a demonstrable track record of successful commercial management of civil engineering projects including major earthworks and Balance of Plant for onshore wind farms.
Essential experience Civil Engineering as a project surveyor. Ideal experience of asphalt / surfacing / highway construction
Essential - previous experience with surfacing contractor.
Ideally experience working for a North West regional Civil engineering contractor
Strong NEC contract knowledge
Salary Details
£35,000 - £55,000 (depending on experience)
