Quantity Surveyor – Site based – Sellafield – Fitout/Refurbishment – Up to £55,000 salary

My client are completing a long term fitout and refurbishment contract in the Sellafield area, working on Nuclear Projects. They are looking for a Quantity Surveyor who can work 5 days per week on the site and the satellite office they have in the area.

Accommodation and food allowance also offered to candidates working away from home.

Role & duties
• Engage with the Project / Contracts Manager and the project teams to ensure consistent delivery of successful projects
• Manage the project status report with the Contracts / Project Manager, understanding and accurately forecasting project values, costs & margins against the target margin, and agreeing changes and solutions with the Contracts / Project Manager prior to implementation
• Forecast cash on an accurate and timely basis, ensuring that the cash position of the project is maximised without compromising our contractual arrangements and relationships with either customers or subcontractors & suppliers
• Manage all cost control aspects of the project(s), ensuring the use of appropriate cost reporting systems
• Support the Contracts / Project Manager to ensure that all significant project issues and correspondence and all necessary contractual processes have been observed, notices issued, records kept and documents stored by the team to protect the company’s position, seeking advice from the Managing / Senior Surveyor or Commercial Manager where necessary
• Support the Contracts / Project Manager in providing monthly reports to the customer, ensuring that such reports contain accurate forecasts of our rolling draft final account, full information concerning variations and record contractual notices
• Provide advice to Management staff on contractual, valuation and measurement matters.
• Prepare and negotiate interim valuations and final accounts including all necessary measurement.
• Measure / value / negotiate / check as necessary all subcontract interim and final account applications including checking of subcontractors’ measurement. Process all associated payments in accordance with the Construction Act and/or other prevailing legislation.
• Assist in the preparation of ‘claims’ or other means of dispute management to correct an imbalance of cost and value.
• Monitor preliminaries / site management costs and advise the Contracts / Project Manager on action to be taken to remedy over-expenditure.
• Study documents at tender stage and advise on potentially problematic conditions therein.
• Upon receipt of contract, to compare contract documents with tender documents and advise on any anomalies.
• Take off quantities from drawings and provide sufficient information to enable tenders to be prepared from those quantities.
• Develop and maintain close relationships with customers, consultants & subcontractors to continuously improve customer experience, improve our company and obtain repeat & negotiated business
• Negotiate subcontract packages.
• Draft and place subcontracts as and when authorised.

• QS Degree or equivalent - Essential
• Good data interrogation skills - Essential
• Commercial Awareness
• Experience of Management accounts - Desired
• Microsoft Access skills
• Commercial contracting experience – Desired
• Re-measurement skills
