Job description

Working with a major Tier 1 civil engineering contractor I am currently recruiting for a Project Planner to join their team to be an integral part of their highways division. The role will be sat with a major project team but with a requirement to be involved with work winning and tendering for future projects.

Key responsibilities in the role will include:

  • Update the Detailed Design Programme (Pre-Construction Schedule) along with designers in assurance of providing a robust and realistic schedule that reflects the risk and opportunity that could impact key project milestones
  • Review and develop the preferred construction sequence considering project wide constraints to confirm the duration in the overall scheme schedule
  • Facilitate construction readiness planning
  • Arrange, facilitate and provide output from client and supply chain collaborative planning sessions
  • Cost load the schedule
  • Generate Earned Value Analysis from the cost loaded schedule
  • Monthly updating of the schedule and reports
  • Update and analyse the schedule based on the effects of Compensation events or other events which may affect the programme

The ideal candidate will be a Planner who has moved into that role from being on site and a qualified civil engineer. I will also consider someone who is looking to make the move into a planning role from an Agent, Sub Agent, Senior Engineer or similar position provided they have some planning experience doing 6 - 12 week look ahead plans or the equivalent. What the role requires is someone who understands the logic and detail within a large civil engineering project and can subsequently drive the programme.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • HNC, HND or Degree educated in Civil Engineering
  • Technically skilled, effective and efficient in Primavera P6 Planning software
  • Experience of working in a major highways project environment
  • Ability to scrutinise design information and provide value adding input to ensure the optimum solutions are developed for the construction phase
  • Civil Construction background
