Job Description:

Our client, an established and growing civil engineering contractor within the Water & Civil Engineering sector, is currently looking to recruit a Project Manager, looking for someone to join their team on a permanent basis.

In this role, you will oversee multiple Water construction projects across the Southern and South East England regions, overseeing projects from inception through to completion, from initial tender, through preconstruction, delivery and handover stages. Typical works entail upgrades to existing Water Infrastructure, including upgrades to Water Treatment Works and Sewage Treatment works, with typical project values ranging from £1 Million to £15 Million. Depending on project size, our client works as either a subcontractor or a main contractor, so having experience of self-delivering works would be advantageous.

Demonstrable experience working within the Water Industry, on previous AMP cycle projects would also be advantageous.

Typical duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Presenting / identifying additional and future business opportunities, developing relationships with prospective clients.
  • Assisting in the management of the Tender Process, identifying construction risks
  • Managing pre-construction process, ensuring timely contract administration.
  • Planning works and creating programmes of work for projects, ensuring timely completion to budget and quality.
  • Ensuring management and communication of change control, both internally and externally.
  • Reviewing, controlling and reporting on costs of a project, maximising commercial opportunity where feasible.
  • Co-operating in the process of subcontractor and supplier procurement
  • Leading and monitoring HSQE performance of site teams, ensuring Health & Safety regulations are adhered to.
  • Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, sharing good practice.
  • Co-ordinating work interfaces between the client and contractor teams.
  • Ensuring site teams are undertaking all works and engineering, in accordance with the conditions and requirements of the contract and associated specifications.
  • Challenging resource levels, workload and training needs, to ensure a well-balanced, competent and motivated project team is in place and being developed.
  • Attending/arranging progression and programme/resource meetings, as required with clients.
  • Supporting with the preparation and implementation of formal handover documentation.
  • Assisting with the continual development of HSQE procedures and documentation.

Candidates will ideally have:

  • Previous experience delivering AMP Water Construction / Civil Engineering projects, ideally within the range of £1 Million - £15 Million (Project values).
  • A relevant professional membership or a relevant qualification within Civil Engineering (ICE/Degree/HND etc).
  • Additional qualifications such as an SMSTS Certificate, CSCS Card, First Aid etc.
  • Good commercial understanding, being able to assist with reporting, cost monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of NEC contracts, being able to manage Contractors Instruction, Compensation Events etc.
  • Previous experience creating accurate construction plans and programmes of work, being able monitor and forecast works through the use of Microsoft MSP and Excel etc.
  • Previously experience of personnel and resource planning, including plant and personnel optimisation (ensuring plant, vans and resources are being fully utilised).
  • A strong knowledge of HSQE procedures and legislation.
  • Strong communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
