My client is currently expanding their teams in the North East within the Leeds and Newcastle offices to work on a number of exciting new projects to support sustainable economic growth and development across the region.
Examples of current projects and clients include:
Investigating the upgrade of large sections of the A1 in Yorkshire and Northumberland in a Technical Advisors role for Highways England.
Leading on the design and business case for the introduction of passenger services on the Northumberland Rail Line
Supporting local authorities across the North-East, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire in developing public transport, highway, walking and cycling schemes as part of the Transforming Cities Fund
Developing business cases for major transport and regeneration schemes across towns and cities including Newcastle, Gateshead, Leeds, Halifax, Sheffield and Bradford
Supporting the introduction of the North-East Clean Air Zone, with the development of a new strategic transport model, air quality modelling and option development
Development of strategic transport models for Calderdale, Kirklees, Sheffield City Region and Leeds.
Microsimulation modelling
You will report to a Director within a collaborative team and office environment. A key part of this role is working closely with associates and directors within Transportation and other disciplines across all offices. You will provide leadership, mentoring and technical advice for team members and the wider business. As such, you will need to have experience and knowledge of the full range of transport planning.
You will be supported in this role by other like-minded individuals and a team of Lead Verifiers with national recognition in many areas of transport planning. Collectively, you will form a team that delivers quality products, that satisfies the needs of our clients, funding bodies and the Department for Transport.
Job Responsibilities:
As a Principal Transport Planner/Modeller, you will be an important member of their Transport Planning and Modelling team in Leeds/Newcastle. You will specify and manage transport planning projects and programmes, act as the face of the company with clients, providing advice and support and exploring business opportunities.
You will lead workstreams within projects with limited supervision, taking responsibility for the technical quality of the work and ensuring that best practice techniques are applied consistently.
You will also contribute to the production and delivery of larger proposals and bids related to our market area from time to time and lead on smaller proposals and bids.
You will take responsibility for the technical development of junior staff, providing on-the-job coaching and mentoring.
Minimum Requirements:
Understanding of traffic models and business case development and a depth of knowledge of key guidance documents, such as TAG.
Extensive data analysis and processing skills
Excellent numeracy and communication skills
Passionate about delivering high quality modelling projects for clients
Leadership in producing reports to a high technical standard
Experience of presenting to project teams
Proven ability to advise clients and design teams on cost, value and risk, not just cost in isolation
Client contact and liaison without supervision
Experience of line management
Supervision of workload and support to junior staff
Experienced in managing, motivating and developing a project team
Experience of managing in-house project finances
Willingness to challenge in a positive and engaging manner
Keen to work as part of a team and to develop and progress career development
Take responsibility for the health, safety and wellbeing of all staff
Preferred Qualifications:
Educated to degree level
Appropriate professional status (or working towards) with a membership of a relevant professional chartered institute, or eligible for membership of a relevant professional chartered institute; for example, Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE), Transport Planning Society (TPS), Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT) or Chartered. Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).
