Principal Planning Officer (Development Management)

About the role

The Principal Planning Officer will deputise for the Planning Manager when required and be responsible for a case load of complex and varied projects.

The role will be based at our clients offices in Whetstone, or their new offices in Colindale, Barnet but there will be times when it is expected for the post holder to travel outside of the Borough to deliver consultancy services on behalf of Regional Enterprise.

About RE (Regional Enterprise Limited)

RE (Regional Enterprise Limited) is a joint venture between the London Borough of Barnet and Capita to run the Council's development and regulatory services for the next ten years. The JV went 'live' on 1st October 2013 and will deliver growth in the Borough and develop a new and exciting consultancy business, which will supplement the core activities.

What you will do:

  • Process complex planning applications;
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior members of the team;
  • Lead on pre-application discussions and provide advice, process planning applications;
  • Identify and maximise opportunities to increase revenue
  • Represent the Council and Re at public meetings, including but not limited to committee, hearings, inquiries and Court.
  • Any other duties commensurate to the role and grade;

Your experience will include:

  • Degree in Planning (essential)
  • Chartered with the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTP)
  • Excellent technical knowledge of the Town Planning system (essential)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of provision of administrative processes relating to the processing of planning applications (essential)
  • Competent and confident to lead negotiations with stakeholders and communicate clear advice on proposals
  • Driving licence.
  • Positive approach to change, implementing new initiatives/procedures and addressing any resistance encountered;
  • Able to manage own workload effectively and efficiently, meeting locally set targets.
