Job Summary:

Our client, a large multidisciplinary Construction & Civil Engineering Contractor, is looking for a Planning Manager to join their Construction team in Birmingham, on a permanent basis. The role will involve being responsible for leading the planning & controls function on large tenders, projects or programmes of works, within the construction sector. Our client typically builds large scale Commercial & Healthcare projects, so we are ideally looking for candidates who have experience of working in the above (or similar) sectors.

In this role, you will be accountable for developing, maintaining and managing all programmes of work, project controls and other time-related and production control deliverables, including sequence drawings, phasing diagrams, (BIM 4D would be advantageous), logistics and site management plans, S curves, milestone/key date trackers, resource histograms, plant schedules, etc. Applicable experience will have extensive experience producing these deliverables from first principles stage (volumetric, unit rates and benchmarks).

Daily duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Effectively leading & communicating the project's planning and controls roadmap and performance measures, to a host of key stakeholders, including: project and regional colleagues, professional team, the client and trades contractors, etc.
  • Early warnings, including exceptions reporting and mitigation proposals will all be key components of the role.
  • Challenge live projects to ensure delivery is in line with all company, regional and project business objectives.
  • Being a key member of the Project Manager and Regional Planning Manager's teams, providing first class planning and controls functional leadership and support in meeting business objectives.
  • Ensuring the responsibilities identified to you in the Company Health and Safety Policy are conducted in accordance with the Company Management System.
  • Applying detailed understanding of construction methods to planning methods.
  • Developing and maintaining programmes, project controls deliverables and other time-related materials, in conjunction with colleagues and other key stakeholders.
  • Developing relationships with client, professional team and supply chain.
  • Contributing pre-contract planning and work winning.
  • Implementing robust project controls, accurate reporting status and forecasting.

Candidates will ideally:

  • Hold a relevant Diploma/Degree in Construction, Civil Engineer, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Hold an MSc/MBA Post Graduate Qualification (desirable).
  • Be part of a Professional Membership such as CIOB, ICE, IMechE (desirable).
  • Possess relevant Construction Certificates/Card (i.e. CSCS Card).
  • Be proficient with various methods and systems including Primavera P6 (Mainly Civils), BIM 4D Modelling, TILOS (Mainly Civils) & Earned Value (EVA/EVM).
  • Possess the ability to effectively plan and programme projects, with a proven track record in a similar position.
  • Be able to effectively utilise planning software to a high standard (i.e. Asta Powerproject, Teamplan, Oracle Primavera P6).
  • Demonstrate experience of dealing with multiple clients, various forms of contract and methods of measurement etc.
  • Have worked in a mixed Building and Civil Engineering environment.
