Managing Quantity Surveyor - Highways - Northamptonshire

We are recruiting for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to work on one of the UK's most ambitious programmes. The project is being delivered via a joint venture which is improving a section of almost 40km. The project will involve upgrading this section to an ALR smart motorway. This is an excellent opportunity for a contractually and commercially astute Managing QS to build a growing and successful team.

Role Overview:

As Managing QS, you will drive success and lead a core dedicated site; you will operate as the commercial lead for the scheme and be responsible for the execution and performance of the Quantity Surveying function for the contract, maximising quality, service and probability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent Company on designated commercial matters on project
  • Line Manage the project quantity surveying team
  • The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills along with a pro-active approach to achieving pre-determined deadlines for monthly reporting on all of the commercial aspects associated with the contract
  • Ensuring adequate surveyor/estimator resources for the portfolio of works
  • Feasibility assessment developing cost plans for self-delivery works
  • Management of costs
  • Management of the Change process on the project
  • Management of procurement
  • To take responsibility for the execution of the Quantity Surveying function on allocated contract for subordinates
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the client and stakeholders
  • Ensure client commercial requirements are achieved
  • The role will include regular weekly reviews of cost and value with monthly financial analysis and forecast meetings with the Management team
  • Supervision, development and training of subordinates
  • Ensure Company position is protected in terms of Change management
  • Ensure procurement is delivered to targets agreed with Commercial Lead and to programme requirements

Experience and Qualifications:

  • HNC, HND or Degree educated in Quantity Surveying (or related discipline)
  • A contracting background within Civil Engineering - you must have prior experience in New Build projects
  • A working knowledge of method of measurement for highways work is required together with experience of the NEC form of contract
  • Experience of Design and Build contracts
  • The successful candidate will also possess excellent communication skills along with a proactive approach to achieve pre-determined deadlines for monthly reporting on all the commercial aspects associated with the contract
