The client

An Environmental / Remediation and Groundworks contractor have a requirement for a Commercial manager. This role is a predominantly North West based role with one overnight stay a week. The requirement is for the Contracting Division of this national contractor.

The Role
To provide technical and commercial leadership, guidance and support to the Divisional Directors and the Business Unit Managing Directors and to all commercial staff completing design and contract work in all work sectors.
More specifically you will be:

* Participating in the identification and tracking of major and strategic project opportunities across the group and input to group opportunities as appropriate.
* Providing advice and guidance on major project opportunities and participate in strategic business development initiatives.
* Maintaining high level business contacts within the environmental consultancy sector.
* Working with regional project teams to provide and deliver professional services with regard to the contractual and commercial aspects.
* Assisting with researching and cascading the latest contractual guidance, best practice and implement methods of working to improve the business' efficiency and accuracy.
* Identifying market trends and obtaining new opportunities and develop the strategy for bidding for work based upon a network of industry contacts.
* You will have direct line manager responsibility to the Divisional Director of the Contracting Services Division. The role will require you to have reporting responsibility to the Divisional Director and other Group Directors with regard to the wider application of commercial and contracting services. Also, liaise with Regional/Managing Directors and the other Heads of discipline.

Person Specification:
* Minimum of 7 years' experience, preferably in the Construction sector, and accustomed to leading a team of staff on large, complex projects.
* Typically, at least 12 years' post-graduate experience, including at least 3 years relevant experience at Management grade.
* Proficient using Microsoft Project and ideally Primavera programming software.
* A detailed understanding of the standard forms of contract, methods of measurement and common specifications used for the environmental consultancy sector.
* The ability to advise on the most technically and economically appropriate solution on a project by project basis.
* The ability to convince clients, regulators and other stakeholders as appropriate.
* The post holder will need to liaise with other divisions as appropriate, primarily anticipated as the Geosciences, Environmental and Planning, and Agricultural and Land Management Division and specialist colleagues in the International Division, pertaining to contract terms, fees, programme, strategies and implementation
* Have a respected area of expertise, be a confident leader and reliable contributor to any team.
* Be decisive, be a good negotiator and always act with integrity.
