Health, Safety & Environmental Manager

A Dynamic and growing Multidiscipline Civil Engineering Contractor is seeking an experienced, HSE Manager for an immediate start.

Location: Based from our head office in South East London, you will be required to conduct regular site visits and inspections across the country. Transport and Accommodation will be provided where needed.

Experience / Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum three years current HSE experience in civil engineering works, rail and projects carried out within the construction industry.
  • Minimal Qualification - NEBOSH Construction Certificate & IEMA or OHSAS
  • Current, Valid UK driving licence

The successful candidate will be required to drive to operational sites on a regular basis, and hold a current UK driving licence.

  • Be eligible to live and work in the UK
  • An ability to communicate, engage and influence staff at all levels with a hands-on approach.
  • A good knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 and internal HSE Audit experience a distinct advantage
  • A strong knowledge of incident and accident reporting procedures.
  • A proven ability to constructively challenge undesirable behaviour in respect of HSE matters.
  • An excellent attention to detail.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to the needs of the business.
  • A results-orientated, delivery-focused and customer-driven approach to all

Responsibilities:

Providing advice and guidance on all aspects of health safety and environmental matters relevant to the organisation working closely with the IMS Compliance Manager to ensure legislative and standards compliance throughout the company.

Preparation of Health & Safety Plans, Method Statements, Risk Assessments and other health, safety environmental documentation specific to each project in conjunction with the Contract Managers.

Regular comprehensive site inspections, including pre-tender inspections and HSE risk assessments, pre-site surveys and site set up for individual projects reporting on improvement actions to ensure compliance.

Arranging and/or carrying out incident/accident investigations, liaising with the client or enforcement authorities as relevant.

Continuous implementation, monitoring and measuring of agreed HSE and environmental performance improvements. Preparing and producing regular reports on the performance of the H&S and environmental management systems for annual reviews Audits and safety inspections, maintain records of audits and inspections and ensure necessary corrective measures are agreed and implemented.

Ensuring the Company meets all health and safety and environmental legislation requirements, to review amendments to legislation and client standards to assess the relevance to the company, making appropriate recommendations.

Ensuring all company employees are aware of their responsibilities under health and safety and environmental legislation and comply with the processes defined in the Company Procedures Manual.

Investigating the environmental implications of the company's activities and suggesting actions which may prove beneficial to the environment, the company or others.

Management and implementation of staff training and certification compliance.

You will work in partnership with Managers, sub-contractors, clients and employees to promote and deliver a positive health and safety culture in the workplace including providing relevant in-house training for current certification requirements and promoting HS&E awareness amongst colleagues.
