Job description

Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor - Midlands/South (part site, part office/home based, with travel across projects in England and Wales) - well-established infrastructure contractor - £30k-£38k+package (car, pension).

Excellent opportunity for a health and safety professional with construction/infrastructure experience to progress within a forward thinking company and excellent mentoring within an experienced HSE team.

Responsibilities / accountabilities:

  • Working closely with all levels of staff within the business to ensure compliance with policies and procedures
  • Ensure that statutory requirements are met
  • Assist teams in creation of safety documentation where required
  • Promote the practical application of health and safety, with the ability to work with the teams to agree solutions and reduce risks
  • Alert Head of HSE of incidents, advise severity and potential conclusion
  • Conduct and support incident investigations to determine root causes and ensure actions are completed
  • Attend internal project meetings / tender handovers and external client led meetings
  • Conduct regular internal audits on fixed and temporary sites, suggest improvements and follow up on non-compliances
  • Promote / instigate cultural change and lead by example
  • Writing of reports and presentations
  • Conduct safety presentations and support teams in delivering these both on site and in the fixed locations
  • Bring HSE innovation and improvement to the business and strive for improvement
  • Flexibility to cover other areas of the business when required

Qualifications / specific knowledge / experience / skills

Essential:-

  • Nebosh Certificate (NGC or NCC) / Tech IOSH
  • Experience gained in a similar HSE role with good working knowledge and practical application of CDM 2015
  • Experience of conducting incident investigation
  • Experience of conducting audits on both temporary and fixed sites
  • Working knowledge of ISO 45001
  • Full UK driving license
  • Good oral and written communicator
  • Self-motivated, able to prioritise and work on own initiative, as well as following instructions and working as part of a team
  • Upholds high professional standards at all times
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet business needs and changing priorities
  • Practical application of health and safety requirements
  • Reliable, punctual, honest and trustworthy
  • IT literate (MS office)

  • IEMA
  • Graduate IOSH
  • Nebosh Diploma or equivalent
  • Behavioural / Cultural Training
  • Incident investigation
  • 45001 internal/lead auditor
  • CSCS Card
  • Training qualification
  • Facilities knowledge
  • Underground service avoidance
